Since the bolt and washer only restrict lateral movement, i decided to drill and tap the mount.

Ground down the remaining threads, leaving the shoulder to support the original washer

5/16 bolt and large fender washer

may not last forever, but it should be fine until i can get my garage wired up for my welder.

spent the last few days working on the front shocks...
managed to get the passenger side replaced, and then snapped the lower bolt on the drivers.
it's always the drivers side with this truck.

ball joints should be here in the next day or two

Hopefully i can drive the bolt out, otherwise i guess i'm replacing the lower control arm. luckily they're only $50

Been stalled for a while due to work and travel, but finally had some time to day to get to this stuff

started with the upper balljoint, drivers side (problematic side).

The nut came off suprisingly easy, but no matter how much beating i did on the knuckle, the joint wouldn't break loose.

Ended up seperating the joint from the upper control arm

once i cut away the boot, i was able to wedge a large wrench in between as a lever.
one tap later, and it popped free.

Unfortunately, the balljoints i recieved do not fit in the control arm

They look nothing like the product picture, but the part number is supposedly correct.

as you can see in the last picture, i still haven't gotten the shock bolt out of the lower control arm.

I got a great deal on a brand new set of Snapon Extractors, they were supposed to arrive last week, but the post office literally lost the package.

I'm pretty sure someone saw the xray and said "SCORE!"
i can get my $40 back from the insurance, but i really wanted the extractor set.

I guess i should've just driven the 2 hours to go pick them up.

I’ve run in to ball joints that wouldn’t fit the control arms.
