Default NizMoKool 1996 Extended Cab Project (hopefully)

Hello all and welcome!

I'd like to start this project build thread log and hopefully I can keep it updated and post pictures of the updates on the build. This truck has been in our family since day one. My dad bought it brand new back in 1996 and it was his DD to work. The truck has been hit twice in the rear and made the bumper sagged and it's like that ever since. The front bumper is also dented but not sure how it happened. If time and financially permits then I'd like to somehow restore the truck with some updates in the process.

Build plan for this HB:
  • Restore the OEM paint
  • New carpet
  • Fix the headliner (the cloth is sagging)
  • Fix the glove compartment (the lock broke)
  • Tune up the engine and clean
  • Replace all door rubber seals
  • Replace both front and rear bumper
  • Convert rear drums to disc
  • Get new wheels (16" or 17")
  • Restore the seats or get aftermarket seats
  • Get new headers and exhaust
  • Replace the suspensions (I think still original)
  • Probably lower it a bit (I'd like to still use as a truck)
  • Later on thinking on upgrading the engine to SR20DET

Hi Niz
That is a nice looking truck, and with all of the updates you plan to do, it will make a nice project.
Good luck on your build. Keep the updates(&Pics) coming.
Thanks

That's a clean hb. It'll look good with a new face lift for sure. Yet, it already looks like it's a nice well taken care of truck. Good luck on the mild resto. It'd look good dropped and leveled a few inches with some aluminum oem 17 or 18 in wheels. Hope to see the outcome!

im close to seattle, when you get around to selling that rear bumper give me a shout. im interested in one that isnt dented up

when you do the door seals, i hear the later model frontier ones (98-02ish) fit and are a little longer. they cut down on wind noise a wee.

theres a really good tint shop in kent called midnight tint? i think. the owner had a few hardbodies and knows tricks to tinting those. for instance, you have to remove the door glass to get the tint all the way to the rear edge of the glass properly because of the path the window travels as it goes up and down.

Thank you street_rulerr!

Yes, for sure I'll let you know if I get rid of the rear bumper. I think it might be bent a bit (but no too sure) the truck got slightly rear-ended but never got it fixed.

Awesome advice on the door seals...I do want to change them for actually the driver side has been torn on some part. Question, when you said a "little longer" what's that mean? I'll all down to getting to limit the wind noise and road noise on this truck.

And yes the truck will definitely need new tint and I'll check out midnight tint next time I get around Kent.

Thank you again!!!

Regarding tinting, I used to be one, and u don't need to remove the glass. In fact our trucks are way easy to tint. A new merc gl class is a true pain in the arse and requires a very good tinter.

i think the extend lower along the upright portion of the door cut out. i cant speak to that intelligently as i dont have any issues with the stock seals or wind noise or frontier seals. Someone here posted that a long time ago. i kinda tucked it away in case i ever had an issue.

hat shop quoted me 275 for the entry grade, 375 for mid and 475 for deluxe. and it was xpel CS tint and did not charge different prices for darkness.
