Default Crank shaft seal question.

Hi, I literally just got done replacing my front main seal/crankshaft seal it went in splendidly but while i had it out there was this loose piece behind it. I can't seem to find anything on it online it was metal and around the crankshaft i can turn it and push it back a lil. I am hoping this isnt a problem. Can anyone tell me what this is and if i have to fix it? Thanks

was it a circular piece of metal? i know there is one on the front of the V6 to keep the timing belt from walking off the crank gear. i think that disc your talking about is to keep the crank gear from eating into the crank seal.

Is it the spring from the inside of the old seal?

If it's a 4cyl there's an oil slinger for the timing chain that rides on the crank snout. It shouldn't come out though.

New here, but I'll add my input... Cadillacdude was dead on with the ring to keep the timing belt in place. The vg33 has it too. The ones in the KAs are used to help keep a seal I think.
