Hey guys, noticed some coolant under my truck the other day. Turns out the upper tank cracked so it’s new radiator time. I called my local Autozone and they have a Duralast branded one for $150 bucks which seemed high for their house brand. So I looked on Rock Auto and there are several to choose from. My instinct tells me to buy the Denso one since I feel this is a OEM style replacement but it says it’s for a 96-01 which makes me wonder if the fit is the same or if I am just overthinking this. Does anyone have any experience with the Denso 2214406 found on Rock Auto’s website?
Radiator is here (1996 D21 4cyl manual transmission): https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...,radiator,2172 Or is there another quality brand I can go with that will last like the OEM one did? I bet the Duralast one a rebranded one on Rock Auto with a markup. I am hoping for a OE syle fitment where I don’t have to modify anything for my shroud.

OSC from Rockauto, if they still sell them are a good radiator. Also make sure to get the V6 one so you get the 1" core (compared to the 5/8" for the 4 cylinder).

Interesting. Are the hose nipples of the same size and in the same places on both radiators?

The radiator gasket between the upper plastic and lower metal part of my 1998 2WD 4-cylinder Frontier leaked about a decade ago, and since then I have used an O'Reilly radiator, lifetime warranty. Does not run hot, Arizona.
Hints: check your fan clutch too. And use an extra-long 10mm combination wrench to lessen cuts on your hands (I made mine).

He took it back out and went to the clutch fan, he was having problems with the AC being cool enough, the electric fan wasn't making enough air flow.

Tony is correct.
The radiator has gone up in price like everything else. I paid 160 or so. Search eBay for a Nissan D21 all aluminum radiator. Doesnt matter which engine, they are the same design. Bolts right in place of the plastic one. |
