Red's torsion bars are 22.6mm thick. Heavy duty long bed parts truck torsion bars are 25mm thick. While a millimeter thinner than the SAW bars it looks like I won't be buying the SAW bars for this truck. I am going to go with the HD bars.

Got those torsion bars out of the parts truck, going to clean them up and make them perrty. Dug out the Lund visor, thinking that deserves a spot on Red. Finally I resealed the h233b axle, that's ready for install. That's all I got for updates today.

So much to my surprise this truck got a small nod in Roadkill magazine. I sent the guys an email earlier this year giving them a condensed version of this thread and they must have liked it. Pretty cool to go back through this thread and remember all that I have done so far...and looking forward to everything that still needs to be done.

This past Saturday I drove Red to my friends shop about 20 miles away. There is will be inside for the Winter where I can work on it every other weekend when I hang out. The plans are to replace everything that is worn out on the front suspension and steering with all Moog and Energy Suspension parts. I am installing the heavy duty 25mm thick torsion bars I saved off my parts truck. I am also finally going to install the h233b axle I have had for this thing for like ever now. The axle has factory limited slip and 4.375 gears. That should wake the truck up I would imagine.

I had a small voice in my head say "Hey wouldn't it be fun to try to get into the Roadkill 3k Hooptie Challenge?". Something to build towards I guess. In the back of my mind I am thinking this truck will be my next autocross truck but we shall see.

#becauseRoadkill

Awesome! A rotsun turbo 5.0 would look good hanging out of the hood for the $3k challenge

Would be neat but for now, despite my recent distaste for them, the KA will stay. I really want to see how the new gearing and the tires affect the acceleration in real life. If it's quick I may do the 3k challenge and if I get in and beat one car I will feel accomplished.

UPS dropped off some Moog upper and lower ball joints as well as a box of Energy Suspension control arm bushings.

I just hit submit on an order for the centerlink and tie rods from RockAuto.com I went with Moog on everything.

I purchased a brand new aftermarket 'mail-slot' hood off a guy who is parting out his Pathfinder.

The tear down begins this weekend. Not sure how much I will actually get done but anything I do will be on camera and put on the YT channel for everyone's enjoyment.

Started pulling the old torsion bars out on Saturday and ended up running out of time. I dicked around moving engines around all afternoon which hogged up all of my Red truck time. So I was able to get the adjust bolts and c-clips out. The bars are stuck fast and I forgot to pack my giant pry bar. As a result I wasn't able to get the bars out that night. I wanted to finish the evening on a high note so I test fit the new hood and I think it looks great. Wish I could leave it in primer but I can't, I have to have it painted. Maybe in the Spring, we'll see.

Next time I am out at the shop I plan to bring the brick-shithouse pry bar and give that a go on the bars. If that fails then I will try removing the anchors from the LCAs and give them a few good whacks with a BFH. If that fails I will just cut the torsion bars in half. I will win no matter what.
