Default Pepe' - 1996 Nissan D21 XE

Allrighty then, FNG here (F'ing New Guy), starting a 96 Hardbody XE build. I've built a 68 Bronco from the ground up, but this is my first go at a Mini-Truck (have always wanted one). I'll have a ton of stupid questions, but I am willing to learn. Thanks to everyone in advance for helping out! This is what I'm starting with....

Ok, question for the day, when doing the timing chain and loosening the oil pan. If you want to drop the oil pan and redo the gasket, do you guys remove the crossmember? Or is there a trick to removing the oil pan?

Nice D21!

Looks to be complete. No missing parts. Is the Check Engine Light on? If so, you will need a code scanner to see what’s going on with the engine control components. These are emission related parts.

I have never removed my oil pan. So I hope someone else can help you.

Welcome to Infamous Nissan!

New Timing Chain, Gears, Guides and Ratcheting Tensioner from Martin Industries. Now to put it all back together... Crank Shaft seal on the timing chain cover, which way does it go? Flange towards the radiator? I missed taking a pic before I removed it....

I'm not sure I under stand the question you're asking. but you can get a FSM and look under the engine book, that should answer your question.

The seal installs with the smoother side out and the open side in.

Now that the motor is refreshed, on to bigger and better things... Added some 17x7.5 Caddy Wheels with 215x40x17 Tires.
