Default New intake option

So ive been looking for some kind of intake for the 4cyl motors. we need some kind of inexpensive adapter to mount to our carb-like throttlebody. they do make adapters that have a flat "top" so you could use the stock bolts to secure the adapter but they are super expensive. They are often called "carb hats" or "carb plenums."

here is what i ordered. an intake from a mid 90's chevy blazer.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1996-2005-B...tZ4i6l&vxp=mtr

thats an example. now the blazer, olds and a few other things use the same setup. basically a GM car with a v6 from the 90's will work.

i only paid 18 bucks and i can drill the top for the two stock mounting bolts. awesome. Also, yes it gets a little narrow just before the inlet but i think it sill still work ok.

I also plan on using a short piece or "intake tubing" as a stack, or adapter form the TB to this hat. I think it will sit too low without a stack of some kind. This stack will have to be on the outside of the intake hat otherwise it will just sit too deep into the adapter and act like a giant plug. i dont think that the stock plastic adapter piece has enough give to clamp onto a piece of tube without it slipping.

secondly i bought some cheap intake off of ebay. Cold air intake to be specific. I wanted the filter, bent pipes, hose clamps and a few couplers so i could cut it up and make it fit how i wanted. I paid 10 dollars for a NEW no-name honda accord intake. about 4ft of pipe, filter, 2 couplers, 4 hose clamps and a few support pieces so i could support this long intake charge pipe.

the below link is an example, i bought a much cheaper one.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-2L-L4-Col...FZcXHO&vxp=mtr

All the parts have cost me 29 dollars so far.

Yes you can argue that the filter is garbage. do i care? nope. ill get a few miles out of this filter and put a decent one on in due time. I plan on putting the filter somewhere down low by the front passenger headlight or lower. I may also make a small sheet metal "ram air" box to route some air up to the filter. I did this on an older car i used to have and played with the location of the intake eventually adding 3mpg to the car by fussing with that.

i will post pictures when im done with it all. note: all the parts aren't supposed to arrive until close to thanksgiving. I paid for cheap stuff, and those parts come with the slow shipping. meh.

Looks like you got a solid plan. Wouldn't worry about the box, it was on a V-6. Post up pics when your done.

we all know that mid 90's domestic motors are unmatched shit. a 350 that makes 190hp? standard. that being said i think its a little choked from what i can see. but i think anything is going to be better than what exists.

ill edit the top post to say this is for the 4cy models

I graduated in 1988. I remember those IROCs being the shit, too. Before that, they had the 305.

Swirl port heads and TBI, junk. Sadly there are no vortec heads to swap onto the ka24e to make it really something.
