How bad is it to replace? I had the dash panel off awhile ago when I was wiring in the tach and fixing the ground for the radio. It looks like to get to the bulb you have to unhook the mechanical hvac controls to be able to slide the unit forward. I ultimately decided I'd rather have a burned-out HVAC light than risk snapping the plastic tabs that hold the cables for the heater core and air distribution controls.

I think you can just pull the bulb out from the front, but mine didn't want to come out and I removed the socket from the plastic it sits in. I finally got the bulb out but it was a bitch to get to it. I ended up getting the socket back in where it goes than found out you can reach the back of the socket from below with your finger to hold the socket so it doesn't pop out.

Pull the knobs off the front, snap off the face plate, remove clear plastic, access to the bulb from the front.

Picked up the bulbs today (2 pack), bulb is slightly bigger than the one I removed but I'm sure it will work. Maybe tomorrow I'll get it in there.

I remember carefully removing the bulb using needle nose pliers, it's been many years since I did it and I have forgotten much during that time.
