I can hopefully find something in the scrapyard that will work for me, i'm also considering welding my front diff to be honest. I know how horrible it can be on CV joints but I do have manual hubs so the diff is only engaged when I want it to be. My fear is that when you're in 4wd it's locked all the time.
This is all hypothetical thinking for the future.

I met a guy today who is part of a local 4x4 club, he used to previously own my truck, haha! He said when he owned it the box was all rotted out and he never did get to restore the truck, someone else must have changed it. Hopefully I can impress him with how well I build it up.

On another note changing the O2 sensor made my truck run much better and hopefully changing the fuel filter will also make the idle smoother.

Hey guys, Slowly but surely the little things I need to do to the truck are all getting done. I haven't gotten to drive in the woods much due to the snow.
Tonight though I: Seafoamed my oil, changed my spark plugs, replaced my old fuel filter, cleaned my throttle body because it was sticking, and did the air box mod.
When I started the truck up it started right away and didn't die instantly like it usually does. Normally I had to start the truck five or six times before it would stay running. I guess the fuel filter was fairly clogged.

And a picture of my old, dirty VG30e just to say I uploaded a picture with this post.

Update!!
Hey guys, just a small update today to clarify a few things.
To anybody who's done or going to do a 3" body lift on their trucks, you're going to run into big problems with the transfer case going into 4-lo. For the time being I took a large pipe and bent my shifter so that it clears the floor and doesn't rub against the handbrake, I'll remove it later and fix it the right way.
Does anybody else even have a shift boot like this on their Nissan? I'm thinking mine is aftermarket.

I also got out for a small drive today in the woods behind my house, there's a fairly long trail there with an old gravel pit at the end I always play in. Got stuck and I must say these trucks have a lot of torque in 4-lo stock. I'm really happy with my new fuel pump and NGK G-power plugs, they made a huge difference! As i'm not 100% familiar with this truck yet i'm still not sure what gears are in my axle's but they have no trouble spinning the 33" swampers. One day soon i'll put a jack under there and find my ratio, I want to tighten my rear drums anyway.

Currently the only things I need to have my truck road legal include: new windshield (maybe scrapyard), new exhaust (hoping scrapyard), tail and corner lights (i'll get off eBay), speedo cable, and a back-up switch.

??? What does street legal mean....just kidding. After this years snowfall back home I might have to invest in a 4x4 just for the few bad days we might get a year. I know its terrible to say but when you need 4wd you need 4wd.

Well things were going good today! I had the day off and nothing to do, so I figured i'd go out and play with my truck a little.
So I removed the drums and tightened the adjusters, because my handbrake hadn't been working, discovered these little pulleys on each side were seized in place so I got them loose and greased and voila! Handbrake works again.
Here's the little part that was seized inside the drum.

After that I decided it was time to ditch the dual overload leafs the previous owner had put on the truck and put on some spare AAL's I had lying around from a previous lift kit. My intentions were just to bring some new life back into the old springs and because what is the point of having two overload leafs, if any.

Before, (2 overload leafs)

After, (1 overload, 1 AAL)

So, after the installation I probably gained an inch of lift in the rear and I didn't really want that, the rake is too much now but i'm sure the suspension will settle a little. The real bonus is that the truck has much better flex now that the leafs have more spring in them.
So then I decided to go for a test drive, and as i'm still waiting on warn to send me new hubs i'm only 2wd right now, so inevitably I got stuck, with no gas, and ran out of gas trying to free myself. I called my dad to come get me but unfortunately I burned my brand new fuel pump out. I got it from Rockauto and it's supposed to be warrantied for 12 months so hopefully they can help me out. I'll know better than to run so low on gas again.

Last night I made the decision to tear into the top of my motor and clean my valve covers. I've never done anything to an engine before really so I figured this was a good place to start.
I tore the upper intake plenum off and worked my way down to the valve covers, once I had them off I have them a good going over with a can of brake cleaner and some shop towels, I did the insides of the plenum too. I laid down a coat of high heat, gloss black enamel and I like the color they came out.

I don't have very much knowledge about engines as I said, but I inspected the valves and rocker arms to the best of my ability to make sure everything looked in place.

Everything went back together nicely, although I didn't quite get finished putting it all back together as it was getting late.

On another note, I always check the local classified for parts or things I may need. Last night somebody just happened to be selling a factory, never been used exhaust system for a 93 pickup (the chances of that where I live are slim to none). So I immediately drove out and bought it for $100. All I need to complete my exhaust system now is an intermediate pipe and a cat.

Nice score! I bought a full exhaust for my Pathfinder and have been having a hell of a time installing it. I already broke 2 header bolts...

Hope your install goes smooth. Keep us posted.

Thanks, I still need a Cat and an intermediate pipe though! I'm thinking I may buy a universal catalytic converter off Rockauto, or wait till spring and see what I can find at the junkyard.

I did finish putting my intake plenum back together tonight and now the engine is back together, I wont be able to fire it up until my replacement fuel pump gets here from Rockauto. I must say the customer service was quick and excellent and they had no problem sending me a replacement pump in return for my broken one.
