Unhappy radio wont shut off

I installed a new radio about 8 months ago, came with an adapter harness and plugged right into my factory harness. everything worked great until about a month ago when it occasionally started to remain on even with the key removed. Now it does it all the time. replaced the ignition switch module part of the ignition switch, no change. The only way I can shut down my radio is to use the radio's power button, when I do, I can hear a relay trip under the dash. But once I have done that if you hit the radio power button again it will not turn back on until the key is in the acc, or run position.
checked all fuses, and the 4 relays just above the fuse block, all good. using my factory manual I traced each wire from the radio thru the adapter harness to the factory radio connectors, everything there seems fine. And it was working fine for 7 months

Does the switch itself feel funky?

radio sw seems fine, and the ign sw is brand new, and even with the ign sw removed from the key lock (just turning it with a screw driver) radio wont shut off

its almost like a wire from the power side of a relay providing power to the radio, is shorted to the control side of the relay? back to the schematic in my manual i guess

I am beginning to think I have an internal short in the stereo head unit. When I pull the connector off the back of the unit, and check the red ACC + power in,and the yellow bat+ power in, while operating the key sw., over and over again, up to that point it works as it should, bat + is always on, and ACC+ power turns on and off with the key just fine.
This is weird though: when I switch those two wires around and plug the unit back in, it does the same thing
