Well, that wasn't it.
It probably needed replacing anyway since there was fluid all around it. I was about to give up when I decided to look at the linkage between the clutch pedal and the master cylinder piston and found that the bracket that ties the pedal to the piston was all bent. After pulling it out and looking on line for the bracket, it appears to be part of the master cylinder, so it looks like I'll be replacing that as well

I've got all of that from my 86.5. Master to slave, with fluid still in it and bled. Complete pedal assembly, too. I just need to find it in my junk pile. Post a pic of what you need. I'm sure either I or David29 will have what you need.

Thanks, but I already ordered the master from Rockauto. It was only $8 with $7 shipping which is still $14 cheaper than AutoZone.

Hello Deerhurst, to bleed your clutch system without bench bleeding, how did you do it? Pressure bleeding? I have been trying to get my truck back on the road for almost a month! Replaced the clutch, had flywheel milled down and new slave and master cylinder. Pressure builds and I am going through loads of fluid but when I start truck and attempt to put into first gear, the rear wheels begin to move and it wont go into gear unless I push really hard, reverse is total grinding. Can you help please?

Did you bleed the clutch dampner on the passenger firewall?

Reading through old threads and when we did the clutch we deleted the dampner on the passenger side amd just connected the top and bottom lines, if you take a bottle of brake fluid amd bleed the top line first its easier to bleed the bottom line afterwards.

I replaced Slave, slave hose and Master. It took a while but I finally got air out and slave worked fine. Two days later, no clutch. Master has some resisitance but not like it should. Could there still be a air pocket in the line? No leaks, so I don't know what happened.

Bleed it from the bottom to help force bubbles up. Get a giant syringe and force fluid into the reservoir if you cannot get the air out with normal bleeding.







Have you checked any of your components yet? I've had clutch slaves explode on the bottom of the truck in traffic. Clutch one moment and the next nothing!

Less than 2 months ago, I replaced the factory clutch master and clutch slave in my 1998 4-cylinder Frontier at 245K miles, because the pedal kept having more free play for first few minutes of driving, then changed to normal.


A few days later I had no pedal resistance at all. There was very little fluid inside the lines, and no bleed possible. I adjusted the pedal pushrod so I had a little LESS free play, and re-bled, and it has been fine since.
