The replacement harness info for above mentioned temp switch is at http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/...78&postcount=9

Note that this sensor is only on the VG30i engines. I believe it was omitted and superseded by the knock sensor when they went to the VG30e in the early 90s.

I gently bent my cover enough with a crowbar so I could slide a deep well socket in there to get the sensor out. And don’t worry, it is not in a water jacket.

Its a bitch to get to for sure. Im OCD so I couldnt bear to bend my timing cover. I think I modified some tools for it.

Hmm, Im going to have to pull my wiring extension out and check it if possible. Ive got a couple issues with idle but I dont think this is mine.

I don’t think the VG33 has this.....unless you used the VG30i heads.

VG33 heads have the treaded hole in the drivers side head. Its just not used with the VG33 electronics.

Except for the six banger in Z cars, you guys are putting me off owning anything with the VG engine. Does this motor have a timing belt as well?

(*shudders in fear*)

Timing belts should be outlawed.

Yes. Timing belt. The VG is very reliable and very stout but has a timing belt probably because its often quieter. I don't know of another 145HP v6 motor with a cradle.

180 HP with the VG33 (210 with the supercharger) - and still a belt that goes for 120,000 miles.

just an update for you guys, since I have the vg30e, I believe I don't have the CHT sensor as stated. but I did put a new ECT sensor in, The connector for it needs to be replaced though as it is corroded. this did not solve my issue though, i believe the vehicle simply idled up with the ECT unplugged was because it would make the engine go back in to open loop and change the ignition timing, I say this because i could not help myself as i feel there was something wrong with the timing, so i loosened the distributor and turned it clockwise, the engine idled up to 700 rpm, fully warmed up though i still see it idle down around 500 rpm, and it still does not make enough power, missing a little bit under load too when going down the road, but not badly, it does backfire when letting off the throttle. the distributor is all the way turned clock wise. so i believe when the previous owner had this vehicle with this problem he took the distributor out and did not set it back in to the engine right, which probably made the issue worse as to why he sold it to my neighbor. so i am going to get the motor to tdc, pull the distributor out and realign it, and put it back in. if this solves the lack of power issue and the backfiring on deccell, then i will be happy at that. if it does not, the diagnosing will continue.

What is the ECT sensor?

Inherited mystery problems from a previous owner are difficult to work through.

I guess in Alaska, you've got to get this fixed in the summer. lol
