Low rumbling, excessive whining, those kind of noises. Sometimes there seems to be no warning, just BOOM. See this thread for pics of epic failure. http://www.nissanoffroad.net/message...p?topic=7731.0

Here is a company out of Florida that sells rebuilt ones for the best deals. Here is some feedback:
I paid $595 for the rebuilt transmission, plus $110 in shipping ($55 to get it to ATL, and $55 to return mine). That's $705 in the truck, plus another $70 in RedLine MT90. ManTrans didn't charge me a core charge for mine, and included an easy return shipping label for my gearbox. I had several rebuild quotes that were double this amount!

Company that sold him rebuilt tranny: http://www.manual-transmission.com/

Seems that the countershaft bearing fails after a lifetime of the transmission being underfilled with oil. A master bearing kit is like $80, if you are hearing noises it is almost stupid not to bite it in the ass. If you aren't hearing noises the least you can do is overfill it like I already specified at the end of my first reply.

Also the above feedback for the Florida company is getting older and older, so I'm not sure of the exact prices at the moment, but I think a Napa unit is like $1500.
