Also, one of the spark plug wires may not have been "on there" very secure. You could try popping them all off (1 at a time, of course, so you don't get them mixed up) and pop them back on.

Those are not ever as good as a new starter, particularly on Japanese vehicles.

Pull the error codes on it. The Check Engine Light (CEL) only turns on if you have an emissions failure. It sounds like a leaking injector, but the codes will confirm and even tell you which one.
