Skip the silicone gasket stuff. Use the old-fashioned brown Permatex instead. Makes a mess of your fingers if you don't wear rubber gloves, but you don't want to do this again.

Stuff a bunch of grease in there. Get a wooden dowel the same size as the pilot bushing hole.

Put the dowel over the hole gently, it should fit tightly....
