The swing-down light is a bolt-in fit for cabs with the standard rear dome light; I did that swap on my '93 king cab. Wiring plug is the same too.

It is a factory housing, was a "storage area" (originally had a plastic insert pocket I removed to fit my ham radio). It must have been an add-on for later year trucks, my old '87 D21 didnt have it....
