Some of these trucks had issues with the actual fuse block overheating and melting the terminals inside the block itself. That lets the wires move and wiggle around causing odd problems.

I hope the trans is ok, but situations like this are a grim reminder that some people should never work on a vehicle. At least the seller was upfront and honest about the transmission having an issue.
