When you say 'runs badly,' if you are getting engine shake and backfiring...could be the oil pump is installed one tooth off on the gear. That will toss timing out 20 degrees.

Just match them to the ones you remove along the way. Can't say for sure, but sometimes the gasket guys send you extras, just to cover any slightly different applications.
