FWIW, I avoid all of that mess by removing the assembly at the flange. Four bolts, and lift out the whole shebang. You don't even have to disturb the rubber boot that way.

If memory serves, there are two threaded holes in the face of the drum. (M8 x ?) They are there so that you can run bolts into them, and press the drum off. The bolts bear against the axle flange.

Probably the dust shield at the front of the driveshaft rubbing a little. They just push on, so they are easily knocked out of line. Easily tapped back in place when that happens.

You don't have to remove the bolts to remove the scissors. You open the tailgate and pull up on the middle of them to make them go the wrong way. Then, you can push them forward and pop them off...
