FYI.. most parts stores won't be able to read obd1 vehicles.. all he has to do is look under the passenger seat at the ECU and it'll tell you the codes.

It could also be a bogus MAF... Cleaning it out won't tell you if it's bad or not..only if it's contaminated.

Have you performed a fuel pressure...

If you're stuck in open loop... you will have deteriorated fuel economy,,, as stated change the Tstat with an OEM one.. I'd change it FIRST.. then re eval. It WILL have a high idle as it's trying...

All the mechanical aspects are pretty self explanatory... just unbolt the old one..and replace the support brackets/braces with the ones from the dash you're using... The wiring is where shit gets...

Check the resistance of the circuits of the gauges at the cluster harness... if the resistance is within range as specified, the gauges are defective.

OP.. Have you considered possibly rebuilding your bottom end? You might be able to get away with a crank kit.

It's all bolt up.. you need a hood, grill and bumper... you can re use the side markers as I did. If I recall correctly, there are no modifications necessary.

Possibly a leaking booster diaphram.. disconnect the hose and plug it or use vise grips to pinch it it shut..then see if the idle changes..
