The hammer blows will act like an impact wrench to bust the nut loose.

It doesn't have to be a super hard hit. Not hard enough to cause the engine to turn.

The weight needs to be off of the front wheels, because you need to unbolt and pull the torsion bar out. That torsion bar is, in effect, the front springs holding the front wheels up...
