Did the driveshaft come loose?

If not, I suspect you need to drop the transmission and investigate the clutch, and then the input shaft, and go from there.

FWIW, I avoid all of that mess by removing the assembly at the flange. Four bolts, and lift out the whole shebang. You don't even have to disturb the rubber boot that way.
