daily project Nissan

Hey and welcome to my build thread. Been in and out of mini trucks since the days of 3 blade windshield wipers and convertible tops but that's another thread.

Just picked up this wrecked and rebuilt 94 for something to drive around. No major plans really but here is the short list and some pics.

Get rid of the bug knocker and plastic bedliner, 2/4 static on 17's, roll pan, replace the missing front valence, chrome 1 piece chrome bumper, grille & corners, bed cover, rhino line the bed, replace windshield, small stereo system & tint. Eventually put a paint job on it.

Changed to chrome grille w/ clear corner and bumper lights

Roll pan and front bumper are on the way.

Skittle 01-04-2014 12:06 AM

Looks good

scoobysmak 01-04-2014 12:52 AM

Nice truck, nice plans

sonsan95 01-04-2014 04:53 AM

nice start! grill looks good..

static drop 01-10-2014 03:29 PM

Windshield has been replaced and got a new strip of chrome molding across the top that came with it...mine was junk. Bonus!
And, UPS just dropped this off
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps798a8b15.jpg

sonsan95 01-10-2014 05:35 PM

That's gonna look sweet.

Lowlyfe 01-11-2014 01:49 AM

This should end up being a cool project, The plans sound good... Keep us updated.

Skittle 01-11-2014 02:02 AM

Where'd you get that roll pan? Looks pretty trick with the plate off centered like that

The wonderful world of eBay....Pan is real nice quality though

static drop 01-30-2014 08:13 PM

I know the valence is rough looking but it looked worse without one. So, I dug it out of a truck bed full of scrap and hammered it back into roughly it's original shape....traded to a chrome 1 pc. bumper and painted the inserts too. Bumper still needs a little tweaking to be nice and straight but at least its on there for now.

alabama_lowlife 01-30-2014 08:57 PM

good start man

static drop 01-31-2014 11:42 PM

Got the tint done today with 5% back glass & windshield and went with 15% on the sides.

sonsan95 02-01-2014 09:50 AM

5% on the windshield, that sounds a little difficult for night driving.

static drop 02-01-2014 02:37 PM

I only got the 5% windshield strip...I shoulda been more specific. Lol

sonsan95 02-01-2014 05:33 PM

:facepalm:Ah that makes more sense I shoulda figured that.

static drop 02-02-2014 04:13 AM

Pretty sunny out this morning when these were taken and taking a lot of sunlight but glass is still rather dark

static drop 02-02-2014 04:26 AM

Think that next I shall finally get around to finishing the bed armor so I can get rid if the green tape. Then weld on the roll pan and get that smoothed in while I am still looking for some 16`s or 17`s...not going to lower till I get wheels and tires.

static drop 02-05-2014 01:47 PM

Got bored...made pinstripes....I really need to touch up the hood chips

Negative....drawn with computer, cut vinyl.

CasanovaGDP 02-05-2014 07:42 PM

No offense. You're truck is now a slut with a tramp stamp

static drop 02-07-2014 09:45 PM

Still waiting on my new dash and HVAC lights to arrive from superbrightleds. I did put in a new stereo today and realized I need to get an adapter for the antenna. Pics coming when I get it all back together.

static drop 02-12-2014 02:43 PM

Apologize for the poor pic but, you get the idea.

static drop 02-19-2014 02:44 PM

Bit of an update....The automatic transmission has never been right since the day I got it....would only shift into OD if you were below 45 mph. Give it any more fuel than that and it would either slip or drop back into drive. Major annoying. So anyways, I dropped it off this morning to have the trans looked at and most likely have to be rebuilt.
On another note, yesterday I ordered a spray gun that will spray bed liner that is supposed to arrive Friday...with that being said, I been wanting to quiet down the tin can cab with some deadener. So, I am thinking of trying some lizard skin...I know there are threads on this but, is this spray type product a good choice? Are there better and/or cheaper options?

static drop 02-22-2014 01:34 AM

Undercoating gun arrived today, hopefully I can find a cup to put the bed liner in to spray it without too much searching. Still not heard anything from the transmission shop. I sure am itching to get it back home and get started on finishing the bed armor and weld on the roll pan.

static drop 02-26-2014 02:29 PM

Still not got the truck back from the transmission shop, getting impatient because I am itching to get going on some of the projects I want to do on it.
On a good note, I ordered these 17's today
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps825fadd9.png

Lowlyfe 02-26-2014 02:59 PM

Those are nice! Going to look sharp

static drop 02-26-2014 04:10 PM

Not real crazy for the bolts on the outside but I was about tired of looking for something that I thought would look cool and actually fit like I wanted them to.

Im using the Lizard skin product in my truck soon. The whole kit cost me $325 which included the cleaner and 2 pints of POR-15 to paint floor and rid any rust before applying the Lizard Skin. This product gives way more coverage for the money than any of those stick on sound control products.

static drop 02-26-2014 06:50 PM

Let me know how the difference is after you get it put on. I read a lot of good things about the lizard skin stuff.

static drop 02-28-2014 04:36 PM

Still no truck back. Ordered a set of eBay all clear tail lights that are supposed to be here in 14-21 days from Thailand or somewhere. Sure hope I have a truck to put them on when they get here.
On a related note....anyone use LED bulbs in their tail lights from superbrightleds.com and, know the correct bulb numbers to order since I don't have my truck here?

scoobysmak 03-01-2014 04:25 AM

Love the progress, should look pretty sweet when you get it all back together, I admit I need to find some LED lights as well. I have clear lenses so I will have to get colored bulbs.

I totally understand the feeling of I would look myself but my truck isn't here to find out.

static drop 03-01-2014 04:39 AM

Just trying to get some parts here so when it comes back I'll have lots to do and hopefully allow me to keep adding new parts while I am installing others.
I thought I had a pretty well laid out plan as to how I wanted this truck to be as a cool, low buck, daily driver and so far I have pretty much stuck to it with the exception of seeing all the great work from folks on this forum really inspires me to do so much more.

static drop 03-19-2014 03:02 AM

Well, today marks 1 month of being without the truck. I went by the transmission shop late today with the pure intent of giving someone a piece of my mind but everyone was gone for the day...However, it was setting out of the shop now. Good sign I hope.

RDH 03-20-2014 12:28 AM

You're doing everything to yours that I'd like to do to mine. It's crazy. GLHF.

static drop 03-26-2014 12:43 PM

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps3680135b.jpg

OnAir88 03-27-2014 10:58 PM

I wanted a pair of those.. come with bulbs and how long it take to get there.

static drop 03-29-2014 05:22 PM

No bulbs, said 14-21 days..think it was 18 before they got here.

static drop 04-07-2014 03:29 AM

Rims and tires are waiting at the tire shop. Went with a set of 245/45-17. Pics coming when I get them on then, time to crank some torsions.

static drop 04-20-2014 04:20 AM

Complete transmission rebuild and its still got the same problem....GRRR transmission shop had it for almost 2 months. All I got was "we've checked the computer codes and it shows nothing and give it a complete overhaul"....we just don't know. I since put on another TPS that I had, as well as another ECU... still same thing. Works good to 46-47 mph and it either slips OD or stays in drive. Gonna try another lockup solenoid and see what it does.
On a good note, I took a break from trans headache and pulled off the rear bumper and test fitted the roll pan. It gonna be nice when it's all welded in.

static drop 04-20-2014 04:40 AM

Just clamped in place for test fit.
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o...psb256ec39.jpg

static drop 04-20-2014 05:28 AM

Just ordered a handle flip kit...yet another mod that wasn't on the initial plans list. Was going to have the paint the tailgate anyway, lol

was thinking about getting a roll pan how well does it fit? and how sturdy is it ?

static drop 04-20-2014 06:18 PM

Picked this one up from a supplier on eBay that has tons of metal pans. It's nice quality piece with clean bends and the fit it spot on from side to side. However, it seems to be bent a little to long up under the tailgate where it would spot to the bed, causing the top of the pan sides to be stuck out roughly 1/4". I am going to be welding on anyway so, I think I will be okay by just trimming off the backside so it will sit flush.

Lowlyfe 04-20-2014 10:46 PM

Lol your truck has a tramp stamp!

Lol, not the first time I have heard that.

Replaced the valve body and now shifts perfectly....hmm, I would think a new valve body would be part of a complete overhaul.
Anyways, new wheels and tires pictures are coming next.

Looks Good, Keep up the good work! On a better note at least you have a completely rebuilt transmission now! Can't wait to see how those tail lights look on there!

static drop 04-23-2014 02:37 AM

I want to get some LEDs first but yeah, I think the entire back will look pretty good.

static drop 04-25-2014 06:48 PM

Wheels and tires just got put on. American Racing 890's w/ 245/45-17. Up next is a 3/4 drop.

alabama_lowlife 04-25-2014 07:06 PM

I like the wheels, the drop should really make a huge difference

static drop 04-28-2014 02:30 PM

Flip kit is here

Painted the gauge cluster too.

static drop 04-30-2014 03:59 AM

Picking up a new pair of sway bar end link kits tomorrow...My bushings are shot.

Miggz707 04-30-2014 03:22 PM

Any more pics of the handle flip kit, inside?

static drop 04-30-2014 03:48 PM

Ill took some and then I realized I had the inside plate installed upside down.:bang: I will go and take some.
Its a pretty simple install. There is just a little trimming to do inside the tailgate where the handle used to mount, nothing major. The kit I got was from Amazon, like 35 bucks shipped or something.

Travis 04-30-2014 06:44 PM

Wish I had all the tools in your garage, what a great setup. I have new 4x4 fenders, valance and roll pan sitting 4 years and still not installed. Wife always thinks of other things to spend money on :wifeismad:

Can't wait to see the 3/4 drop. Currently have stillen spindles at stock height w/ 2" blocks in back, though would like to go lower.

static drop 04-30-2014 09:45 PM

Ordered 4" blocks just this morning

static drop 05-05-2014 02:00 AM

New sway bar bushings installed, blocks came in Saturday, pinto fronts and factory back shocks are here. Tomorrow the roll pan and tailgate patch gets welded in. Going to try Tuesday and finally get it lowered.

static drop 05-11-2014 03:40 AM

Roll pan is on, tailgate handle is shaved, & 4 small holes that were drilled into the tailgate (for some unknown reason) were welded up. Really pleased with how it turned out. Will need only very minor filler to be perfect. Will post up a few pics tomorrow.

static drop 05-11-2014 06:21 PM

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o...pscfde78be.jpg

static drop 05-13-2014 05:02 AM

Have a set of 4" blocks but, have decided instead to go with 3" and redrill the hangers in back. Hope to get the lowering and new shocks on this week. Been thinking I will shave the redicously large 3rd brake light too. Just need to figure out how to get the headliner pulled back so it won't get burnt thru from welding up the holes. And, more importantly, put back in and looks like it's never been taken apart.

OnAir88 05-13-2014 11:46 AM

Is your headliner the leather type stuff or the cloth.. cloth is easy to take out but leaves finger prints easy.. and the leather tyoe is very hard to come out without tearing. Just from my experience.

static drop 05-13-2014 04:15 PM

Its like vinyl or something and its tucked behind the window seal.

OnAir88 05-13-2014 04:38 PM

Those are very hard to getwout without tearing it.

Skim 05-13-2014 04:44 PM

Nice progress / build up.

static drop 06-17-2014 07:33 PM

Been awhile since I've updated however, not much to report other than I did replace an A/C hose that I got from David29 and got the air conditioning working nice. And, picked up a new set of Memphis door speakers....that I have yet to install. lol
Would really like to get it lowered in the next few days but my schedule is looking that may not be possible anytime in the near future.

Got some time today and put these Memphis door speakers in. Far, far better sound than the worn out factory speakers.
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o...psbe029d2f.jpg

static drop 06-30-2014 04:13 AM

Not a lot of progress worth noting because I'm on the hunt for a water leak inside the cab but, I did fix the blower fan than when turn on 3 would make a loud humming noise and, on 4 would try and shake the dash out. Turned out to be a 3/4" self tapping screw that had fell into the blower and must have thrown it out of balance I guess. Lol, works perfect now.
I did pick up a nice set of tailgate arms and all the small rubber pieces for the tailgate mine was missing.

static drop 07-06-2014 04:42 AM

Was finally able to get the truck lowered today. Went 4" in back and 3" in front. Need to raise the front back up just a little due to the suspension settling after the test drive. Have Pinto shocks for the front but not got them on yet.
Wheels are 17x8 with 245/45 tire.

alabama_lowlife 07-06-2014 12:29 PM

Looks good to me. Just drop the back some more, don't lift the front lol

static drop 07-07-2014 12:29 AM

Adjusted the front a little today, has a 3/4" rake and that's what I want.
Better pic here.
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o...psc10cb7f9.jpg

static drop 07-07-2014 12:42 AM

I suppose next on the to do list is shave the 3rd brake light and finish the truck bed coating while I am trying to save the cash up to get a shallow mount sub and box. Probably just go with a single 10". I already have a Memphis amp to power it.

Hardbody92 07-07-2014 12:42 AM

Gotta love that 4 foot antenna:facepalm: are there any functional replacements shorter maybe? I have an OE antenna too, love the radio pick up but I think it ruins the look a little

static drop 07-07-2014 03:25 AM

Speaking of antennas, I found a bolt on the inner structure under the antenna mount that had a short piece of wire that was twisted in two. Is there a ground wire that goes to the antenna?

static drop 07-10-2014 02:08 PM

Have an old school windowless camper top that I been looking to sell to be able to purchase a bed cover for it. Currently have a guy not too far from me with a fiberglass bed cover willing to trade. Hope that its what I want, going to check it out this weekend.

static drop 07-20-2014 03:00 AM

Took a little road trip today and traded the shell off for a fiberglass cover. It's not exactly what I wanted but, it will do for now. On a good note, I got 19.7 mpg which the best it had done before was 18.6. Both on 89 octane. Not to bad I don't guess for a near 200k mile automatic. Only thing I have done is change the fuel filter. And tonight I checked the timing and it was 8.4 btdc. Put it to the recommended 10 and it runs so much better.
Will post up some pics tomorrow.

alabama_lowlife 07-20-2014 03:01 AM

Yeah, let's see some pics of the cover

static drop 07-20-2014 04:51 PM

static drop 07-20-2014 09:03 PM

Got around to changing to a set of Pinto shocks up front today. Really impressed with the ride quality. While taking it apart I discovered my factory left front shock was busted. All good now though.

static drop 07-23-2014 05:19 AM

The red bedcover will be going away very soon because I have found a smooth fiberglass cover like I wanted before I ended up with this thing.

static drop 08-12-2014 03:23 AM

Not updated in awhile pretty much because not had a chance or extra cash to do anything with. However, I got to thinking I have another wiper cowl, a couple damaged fenders and, access to a welder.. So today I got started making a smooth wiper cowl. This is another thing that wasn't on the initial plans list but.... We all know how easy things get outta hand.
Got one side fitted and started tacking it in. I am not, nor claim to be any kinda fabricator but, I think this will turn out to be something pretty easy to do.

nice man it looks good so far, if I can offer any advice, put the cown back on before doing any filler work. When I shaved mine years ago and tried to install it the filler cracked around it since the cowl has a slight radius to it when mounted.

Which lights did you pickup?

static drop 10-28-2014 12:34 AM

They were from superbrightleds.com. Think they were the cool white ones.

static drop 10-28-2014 12:44 AM

Not had much time at all of late to work on the truck which stinks but, the way it goes I suppose. Got one side of the smooth cowl pretty much finished. Worked most of the evening on some hacked up wiring someone did on the brake lights that which the passengers side never did work... Yanked out a bunch of wiring from a trailer light kit that was tied into the right side light over to the drivers side. Still didn't work. Changed bulbs, nothing. Turned out to be a corroded connection inside the weather pack...never woulda guessed.
Anyway, tonight I found a bad right front lower ball joint. So I guess I may as well replace all 4 since the truck is pushing 200k.

Skittle 10-28-2014 12:46 AM

Those tires are HUGE!!!

static drop 10-28-2014 12:55 AM

245/45-17

static drop 10-31-2014 05:59 PM

Truck always had a fairly bad vibration in it any time stopped and in gear...found the front pulley was slightly warped I guess from when it was wrecked... replaced it from the parts truck. Idles smooth now.
Ball joints will need replaced very soon. Lowers are shot, gonna replace uppers while I'm at it.

static drop 11-04-2014 09:48 PM

Ball joints replaced and drives much better, still has a little wander to it though... either something in the steering linkage of the box itself... possibly an alignment wouldn't hurt either.
Also picked up my amp but still have to get some sorta sub.

static drop 12-11-2014 06:00 PM

Finally got the old school clears with LEDs installed
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps684f4f74.jpg

static drop 12-17-2014 02:12 AM

Got these in yesterday
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o...pse0ed1d9c.jpg

static drop 12-19-2014 02:14 AM

Replaced strut rod bushings tonight. Tightened the front end up considerably. Set the bolts back to the same length but it looks positive cambered... No telling where the caster is now. Hopefully now an alignment will finally cure the wander.

static drop 12-22-2014 03:22 AM

Picked up a Memphis 10" shallow mount sub and my steering wheel and adapter should be here in a couple days.
