Riddle me on clutch failures
 
Car got a long drive in the last week, ~5000 miles.



Noticed on the way back the clutch engagement point had fallen a bit closer to the floor. A while later it was basically on the floor and difficult to get into gear.



This is exactly like a shitty bleed that it had when I got the clutch installed.



No grinding or anything and with a little finesse it goes I to gear smoothly.



Clutch, PP, flywheel, slave cylinder and throw out bearing are about 15k miles old. Maybe closer to 20k now.



Suggestions?

Fluid level in the master?

...would also wonder if you still had an air bubble in the master.

If there was a previous air bubble between the slave and master, how long for it to "come to the surface"? ...up the hose? Hmmmmmmmmmmm...

Fluid level was fine when I ched it last night in the dark after being on the road for some 20 hours so that's not a reliable check!



I have a little 2003 Audi A4 wagon. 3.0 V6 with JHM tune, other little deletes .gov don't like, 16lb TTV flywheel and B7 RS4 clutch, quattro, 6 speed manual on factory sports suspension springs and Koni Sport Adjustable shocks. It's a fun little psudo muscle wagon. I daily that vs my truck. Not the truck so I put it in general and not the D21 section. Car gets acceptable MPGs and has cruise and a good bit more power. Still in the low 6 second 0-60 but it's AWD and weights 4000lbs without me in it. It's party piece is 40-120. It's slow off the line. It'll squat under throttle at 100mph.




Don't mind me. I'm running on maybe 2-3 hours of sleep in the last 30 hours.

Bell housing bolts are backing out, allowing it to flex away from the engine when you mash the pedal.

Wish it had enough power for that!



The PP bolts backing out is a real possibility though that would be much less consistent.

Yes, fluid level is not the only indicator of faulty clutch master or slave cylinder. A master cylinder can leak internally so fluid level doesn't change.

Car. It started having issues in Nebraska. Got back to Oregon last night. Was exhausted. Left Kentucky around 7AM Sunday.



It's currently 24F outside so I'm not motivated to go outside and look at it yet. Need to get the car up on Jack's to look at the slave. I'll look at the master here in a few.
