Sounds like a turbo

After removing all my dead AC components which didn't work anyway, the engine now has a whirring sound in lower gears / lower speeds prompting someone to ask me if my truck had a "turbo" .. any thoughts on why it suddenly has this sound? (Also have replaced both belts)

belts are too tight. they whine when that happens. right before they shear off a pulley

Belt tension. My timing belt sounds like a gnarly blower. Always has. Doesn't seem to matter with mine. Its only been that way for the 100k miles I had the truck and with 3 timing belts.

^^ i think he meant DOESNT seem to matter.

my accord was set a little tight so i backed it off a wee for peace of mind. under heavy/high rpm loads the belt takes a whole lot of stress/force on it. i dont want the belt all loaded up for no reason at idle

Oops! Yup! Fixed! Thanks man! I can't always word very well and a smartphone doesn't help that.

Another vote for too much belt tension.

Checked the belts and they seem tight. It only squeals for a moment or two at start up and not every time. Would you recommend I loosen the belts some?

4 cylinder? use gates or goodyear belts. the 4cyl is notorious for belt noise.

street_rulerr 12-09-2017 09:43 PM

i had a hard time getting belts that fit properly. i dont know if its because omeone frankensteined the belts on my truck or what, but could someone post up the known, correct part numbers for the 4cyl and 6cyl?
