Transfer case swap from auto to manual trans

I may need to pull the transfer case from an auto trans pathfinder to put in my manual trans truck.

What fluid do I use? The same GL-4 as in the transmission? Drain the old ATF out of the transfer case and refill with GL-4. Maybe repeat a couple times over a short period of use to get all the ATF out of the mix?

Found this thread - http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/...ad.php?t=31820 but only mentions using the same oil as the trans - not really how to go about swapping from one to another.

Thanks
Chris

My 1995 Nissan manual says to use Genuine Nissan ATF or equivalent. I have Dexron/Mercon in mine. They make no distinction between transmissions.

Hmmm ... wonder where I got the idea the transfer cases on manuals used the same GL-4 as the manual trans?

Oh well, maybe I know why the transfer case seems to be having issues now ... :(

They can use either. There are no clutches in the TX10. I ran mine with the same redline MT90 that I ran in the manual trans. The thinking there is that if the front seal of the t-case were to seep, the mixing oils would be the same.

One difference with the auto t-case is the absence of the oil catcher ahead of the front seal. One has it, the other doesn't. But I know of others running cases from autos behind manuals with no issues. Nobody really knows what the little oil tray thingy was for.

So there's that little tidbit.
