Broken water pump bolts. Need advice.

Truck is an 89 with the z24i engine. Pump failed on me coming home. The impeller shaft just broke right in half. So I go to replace the pump and two of the bolts broke off. Naturally two of the longer bolts that pass through the timing cover to seal the water passage. So I pulled the timing cover to get at what was left of the bolts to spin them out. And managed to get the one bolt to spin out. But the smaller size bolt just refuses to budge. Tried alot on it. Heat. Vice grips and the clamping force of God. Welding a nut to it. Nothing. What's left sticking out just keeps getting more and more messed up with each attempt so I need some advice before I go to drilling and taping.

Is that bolt a blind hole? Or does it pass into the block or a passage?

Does anyone know the thread on these for the tap? If not I can check the bolts just figured I'd ask.

Anyone got any tricks up their sleeves for this? I'll attach a picture.

Might need to drill and retap that hole... Hope others have some ideas for ya.

A left twist carbide drill bit is your friend, start with a drill smaller than the bolt hole and you might get lucky and it'll spin out what'll be left in the hole, run a thread chaser through it and good to go.

Well I drilled it. Figured I'd try and ez out. Should have known better cause you can probably guess where that's broke off into now. The gas can and a lighter are pretty tempting

Oh dude... dat's not good.

LOL... yea, tempting.

Drill it and helicoil it?

No one ever listens...

OH, I'd also be quite liberal with some AeroKroil, or other light penetrating oil. Letting it soak in for a few days can help.

Well I believe it's out. Got some small pointed Dremel bits and ground that sucker away. So yeah. Either drill and heli coil or I'll tap new threads.

I'm just prone to being prone to finding the wrong way before I get it right. Issue now is drilling out the hole. It really doesn't want to drill. Got new bits. idk maybe titanium and HSS bits aren't good enough? I confirmed the easy out is gone so I'm not fighting that anymore. The holes about half as deep as it needs to be. And yeah I've buggered up the hole a bit getting it there. its just hard to keep a drill wanting to go straight working from over the grill when it doesn't want to bite and drill.
