Last set I had I put the tweeter at the top of the a pillar. Mounted at a slight angle to direct toward listener.

I made custom door pods for my truck so I could fit JBL GX600Cs. They look nice, and sound pretty good. I'm upgrading to some FoCal Flax 3 way components soon though, so I will be building new door pods.

no offense but whats the point of a setup like that? why have it all mounted right on top of one another like that?

Component systems can be powered through better crossovers to filter out unwanted frequencies to an individual speaker. This results in better sound quality over most coaxial or full range speakers.

i got that. i meant why mount them side by side like that rather than getting some distance between the woofer and tweeter

Well, the main reason to mount them close like that is that if they are too far apart, the staging is generally adversely effected, most tweeters don't have the ability to play upper midrange, nor the factory crossover settings available to do so. IF you mount them far distant like the door/pillar that is common with the pathfinder A-pillar they tend to smear the sound stage. So doing the component speakers in the way that Tomakze has them is a generally acceptable way to get a good outcome without a whole bunch of custom crossover work, or a whole bunch of external amplification and processing.
If you were to do a tweeter in the A-pillar to lift the stage height you would generally want it crossed over very high (~13.5kHz+) to perform as an addition to the setup as shown in this thread. This would then generally need some form of attenuation(L-pad, resistor etc.) to dial back the tweeter so it blends with the primary left and right channels, instead of detracting from them.....
But anyway.... those plates are also a nice way to add the parts to the truck without having to cut things up, especially if you know that you will be doing something totally different in the near future, like a Focal 3way setup......
