needing some help on the neon

well i have another engine out of a 98 neon and im wondering what all i can do to this engine to make it fast with out turboing it. i thought i would ask on here cuz im tired of getting made fun of on neons.org cuz i have painted interior

first off is it a sohc or dohc and the only way to get some real power without turbo is to do a 2.4 swap. cause you can dump 3g's into a 2.0 and still barely have the power a stock 2.4 has. whats makes it hard to neons anymore is no one produces cams for them anymore. so that being said, first you would have to find someone that is selling a used one.

i have had 3 neons all dohcs i had a mopar ecu pacesetter header srt4 exhaust a bored throttlebody from a sebring an aem intake msd ignition accel 8.5 wires & a shortshifter(sawzall 2 the stock 1 ) & mine was 1 of the fastest n.i. cars around so they r a good platform hope this helps good luck

my boy has a sohc now with pretty much the mods its a pretty respectable ride not as fast as dohc but still pretty quick..u can get a intake manifold 4 the single cam that is a pretty good hp boost then theres always new pistons rods etc...u can swap an rt fuel rail on it port & polish the head possibilities r endless jus depends on the funds

yeah this car is alittle fast as is right now just need alittle more speed out of it but i want it to look stock i want a bad ass sleeper with out it bein turbo

I have 2 neons right now and I they can be made quick but not I'm the man on the streets fast in NA form. I have a mopar performance ECU, obx header, high flow cat, straight out exhaust, intake, bored out TB, R/T sway bars. progressive performance springs. I am building another SOHC 2.0 right now for my 2 door.

for the biggest bang for buck mod swap out the modulated clutch for a fidaza flywheel and clutchmaster stage 2 clutch and throw in a phantom grip and weld the pin while you are there cause the pins are notorious for coming loose and scattering the spider gears

straight up bro go to modernperformance.com they have everything you would need for ur neon and like ole dude said 2.4 swap is the way to go wether its turbo or not it dosent matter they got it

to do a clutch swap out is about 500-600. and modern performance is where to go but for what they have left in stock like I said no one is manufactoring parts for a neon anymore

ive been on modernperformance and they dont have that much stuff for the 2.0 its all for the 2.4

that blows i dont want to do the 2.4 swap cuz i dont have alot of money at this time it all goes to school what can i do to make it lighter

just put a srt4 motor in it and call it a day lol, buddy of mine did that and it was quicker than his 06 srt4

ok well i have somemore questions for the neon guys on this site im coming into 6 grand here pretty soon and im wanting to do the srt4 swap and i think i got kicked off of neon.org cuz i cant log in any more but i need to no what all i need to do to do this swap and if 6k will be enough to do it

6k is plenty enough but personally I wouldn't dump 6k into a neon. even after the swap car won't be worth 5k so do the math.

best bet instead of swapping the "SRT4" motor in just throw in a stock motor from either a PT Cruizer or a dodge stratus, they ran the DOHC 2.4 and has a lil more pep than the 2.0 SOHC or DOHC that you had in the neons

i just want to make the car alot faster then what it is and i like the body style of the neon i have so even if it isnt worth anyting after i do the swap i will b fine with it i just have alot of mouthes that i want to shut when i get the swap done
