For an all-around gun I really like my 9mm.
It's midsize, a little big to conceal but not too bad to carry. It doesn't jam like a .45 and it's not just going to bruise someone like a .22 or .25 will.
If you want to go old-school and shoot in style get a .357 magnum. It'll shoot .357 magnums which are real fucking powerful and will rip someone in half, or .38 specials which are about the same size but not so overwhelming.
bersa thunder .380
cheap, reliable, same size bullet as a 9mm but slightly smaller casing. research gun reviews online before u buy too. i couldnt find any things bad about mine so i bought it

my next one will be a .40
i want a 1911 .45
ill never own a 9mm. theres reasons cops dont carry those anymore. they suck

I prefer a .45 over a 9mm. I figure if you gotta shoot someone, they need to fel the bullet. For a woman with a small hand I'd have to say a 9mm, .30 or a .22 (if ya want something really small)
I myself have a Ruger P89dc (9mm)
Remington 1911 .45 cal (Yes, Remington, not Colt) It was the sevice pitol my great uncle carried during the Korean war, and it still shoots true
I also have a 455 Ealy .45 cal revolver. Another pistol left to me by my great uncle, it's a english army service revolver.

The .25 doesn't have enough knockdown for me...if it's me or them, you better believe I'm hitting them with at least a 9mm JHP like a cor-bon or the like.
My caliber of choice is the .40. Bigger than the 9, smaller than the .45, easy to manage recoil, inexpensive to shoot, good energy transfer to target, and you can get it in frames that all but disappear when you conceal them with a molded holster.
I got a Taurus 24/7 in .40 and I love it. Great balance, hammerless, great safety, dependable, easy to break down and clean, great feel to the trigger pull, and accurate.
Go to a good gun range in your area with the wife and demo every pistol you can get your hands on. Most will let you try one before you buy.

i agree i will never own a 9mm either. i shot my dads and it jammed like 5 times before i made it through one clip. personally i like .44 or a .45 ive never had a problem with those. oh and pugz i have a colt 1911 .45 and i love that gun :D

I have a couple of glocks, a couple of springfieds XD, and a couple of smith and wesson M&P. I prefer the way the M&P feels in my hand and the way it shoots and It dont seem to be as heave or bulky for a carry gun....:hump:

i dont have any guns... but im completly in love with a Dirty Harry and i intend to get one once i get a chance to legally... if not then a snub-nose .38 revolver would do the trick too...

i'm another springfield XD fan. mine is a 40 and i love it. my wife can handle it quite well, but she doesn't really enjoy shooting it. she has a walther p22 which fits her hand like a glove and has a laser. being a .22 it doesn't have knock down power, but you can shoot a .22 with blanks loaded in it at me and i'm running from you. we've carried my XD in the car on several trips and we're growing more comfortable with actually having it in our possession. i still haven't carried it on my person even though i am licensed. now that it is getting colder, there is a chance i will begin doing so on occasion. i can't keep it with me when i go to work (military base) so i don't have many opportunities to carry it.
back to the subject, get the biggest thing you're comfortable shooting. i fell in love with the XD when i shot my friend's .40. he also has a beretta px4 storm .40 but it just didn't feel as right as the XD. my brother-in-law has a sig .40 and it's the same story with it. any of these are obviously gonna be a little more difficult to conceal than a smaller gun.
next on my list is a springfield 1911 .45. you damn sure can't conceal it, but it was awesome shooting one of these.

If you're using a gun for home protection, get a revolver.......end of story.
If someone wakes you up in the middle of the night threatening you, you don't want to have to think about it, just pull the trigger, gun goes boom. No magazine, no safety, just point and click. When I went to the concealed carry class, they were very adament about women using revolvers for home defense because most women get very shakey and don't think straight when their life is on the line, and a revolver was the solution. So with that being said:
I have 2 guns, a cheapy .38 special for home defense loaded with wadcutters, and my Ruger P45 AGP, loaded with hollowpoints. I bought the .38 for $200 at a gun show, and it shoots every time you pull the trigger, wish I could say the same about my Ruger.

I agree with rich about the revolver and women. Not only that, revolvers are quiet...you rack a slide and you have just given yourself away. Keeping a racked and stacked firearm in my house is a definite no-no because we have a toddler in the house. Shotguns are good for home defense...but if your girl is small the recoil of a 3.5" mag 00-b might be a bit much for her to handle if a followup shot is needed.
I don't know about your state and the CCW laws, but in Texas, if you qualify for your CCW with a revolver, you can only carry a revolver. But if you qualify with a semi, you can carry either.
Slick kimber in that pic...those are sweet leadslingers.

hell, before my dad passed away, he owned an SKS, AK-47 assault rifle, colt 45 and a Llama (i believe it was an M-82)
and when my house got broken into, a Ruger Redhawk 44 Mag revolver that was my uncle's was stolen. it was nice. had a great scope with it
when I do get a gun, I want a Glock 22
I'd love to have a Desert Eagle, but they're too damn expensive

i have a ruger .40, a saiga 7.62x39 ( hunting AK47) and a 12gauge mossberg 500 home defender..
if you're looking for home protection only, get a shotgun..
if youre looking to carry, find something you like that is of good concealable (sp) size. i love my ruger at the range, but it is too damn big to carry every day..
my dad also has a keltec .380 it's too small for my big hands, but he likes it and it's about the size of a pack of smokes.
theres also the taurus judge, which is a 5 shot revolver that will shoot a 410 shotgun shell.. it's BAD ASS

For reliability I'd get a glock. They got the least moving parts of any other gun and their reliability is well documented and unmatched by any other weapon out there. I wouldn't trust my life or my families life with any other handgun.
For a small revolver I'd go with the Taurus Judge. It shoots .45 or .410 shells. It packs a hell of a punch compared to any othe gun of its size.

PUT THEM SPRINGFIELDS IN THE AIR! :thumb:
when i was in the market for a pistol it was between the glock and springfield xd! i did alot of research on these two pistols! at the range i tried out the glock 40/45 cals and springfield xd 40/45 cals. my conclusion was that the glock was blocky, bulky, and didnt have much control where as the springfield xd fit my hand like a glove and had great control... my groupings are all within the size of a silver dollar at 10 yards! dont get me wrong the glock is a reliable pistol thats been out for a hot one but the springfield xd is as reliable if not better firearm in my opinion! i have the 3" (barrel) 40 cal. xd sub-compact and i love it!...

Yea I have 2 of the XD pistols they are a great piece for the money. I have a 45 GAP and a 9mm both are the tactical 5" models. They are packed full of safty features as well as little helpful items. I would not take my money back for them....

nickel plated 9mm "genie" dats my baby! for the misses i think she'll be cool with the .25 im actually gunna be picking one up for my lady...just figure its small enough to fit in her purse and just enough to catch a mofo slippin if she find herself in a situation.
Throw that damn .25 in the console and forget about it until you need it. I've never seen a .25cal pistol that wasn't a POS. I carry the Springfield XD bi-tone .40 service model. I've put close to 300 rounds through it since owning it. Never a FTF, FTL, or any other problems whatsoever. I seriously LOVE this gun, and LOVE the .40cal. I plan to buy the .357Sig conversion barrel for it when I leave it in the house. Or, maybe I'll buy the XDm in .357Sig. They're super easy to clean, super easy to field strip, and hella reliable. I've never been one to drop $500+ without doing research, and it was hands down Springfield to me.
There are definitely other brands out there that make quality guns. I've never been a fan of the way most glock models pitch my hand forward, but you cannot argue with their durability. On the other hand, if you're like me, you won't be dumping your $500 piece in a bucket of sand, throwing it in the lake, or running over it with your truck. Taurus makes a good gun, Kimber's are HELLA nice but expensive, M&P is a great pistol.. The list is endless, only thing that limits you is what you want to pay. My wife carries a .380 KelTec.. Too small to shoot for fun, but will get the job done and can keep in her pants pocket.
Nuff Said.

X2 on the .25 cal . Those little guns will cause more harm than good. Chances are that if the gun even fires that the bullet won't even phase the attacker. They are generally unreliable and almost always a pos.
