85 720 K/C..new truck for PC

Ok for the past few weeks ive been working out a deal with Brandon to buy his 85 720. Tomorrow is the day ill be taking the truck to Arizona to get it tuned up & smog checked. When i return in a few days we'll go to DMV & make it official.
Overall the truck is in great shape. 130,600 original miles & everything works.
I plan on going with a late 80's early 90's theme w/ just a few basic mods. I picked up some Z 71 & also some 720 ST rims for it. Im excited seeing as ive never owned a 720 & the kool thing is my family all fits in it :D K a few teaser pics...

the only thing ive done so far was replace the pipe from the cab back. Went 2 inch with an old school dual chrome tip.........

Oh ya the C notch is nice, not having the frame slamming the axle is a bonus :D

Thanks guys n gals. The flaps are 1/4 inch off the ground all the time :D
The biggest issue i have now is the exhaust pipe dropping below the frame from the cat forward !
Need to have my exhaust guy try & tuck the pipe above the crossmembers soon.
Now i have a truck to haul stuff around in again...

Mark, on the paint scheme......GO FOR IT! It will come out sic if you do choose to paint it that way. On the down pipe, don't have a pic but basically just cut and raised the pipe as close to the crossmember. ya, nissan engineers probably didnt want the 720s to be lowered! LOL

haha old school NASSIN! Mark, now if you decide to get a chrome grille w/the inserts painted like that that would really tie in the chrome corners.:thumb: also don't forget to flipped the nissan stamped lettering on the tailgate!!:D but overall, what a difference! no offense to pejsa HB.:)

The wheel is smaller than the one im using now but the adapter is too big. Time to fab one up. & the wink mirror "clamps" onto the stock mirror so no drilling required. The window cranks will likely be used on the HB.

Another mod thats right up my alley....loud exhaust. I cant stand a quiet truck so.......i installed a VW stinger pipe. Welded a flange so i can go back to the dual tip whenever. It's a bit louder & "pops" a bit when slowing down...

Ok another old school part aquired for the 720. Last week i picked up a Snug top shell. Needs to be sanded down to the gel coat then re primered. Not sure it'll be black seeing as i want to repaint the roof & hood a diff. color. The window frames will get some detail work though :D

Ok I made a disturbing discovery yesterday... I believe the head gasket has gone bad on the 720 [Z 24]
The last 2 days ive noticed the engine knocking & pinging at all speeds, rough idle & an obvious loss of power going up hills.
& today i noticed water spraying out from where the exhaust manifold bolts to the down pipe & lots of smoke [vapor] coming from the tailpipe as i got home from work today.
Checked the oil & its not discolored & the water lever in the radiator is still full.
Wierd thing is that the truck still has a fair amount of power as long as i ease it through the gears & dont try to take off fast from a stop.
The motor only has 144,500 miles on it but sat for many years before i bought it. Kind of bummed but oh well sh*t happens. Any tips on the head gasket repair i should know ?

I got the head off today...the gasket between 3 & 4 was worn away & #4 piston had water in it. I removed it with the intake still attached..a bit heavier but it was easier than trying to remove the intake.......

Sucks your headgasket blew... but I'm not surprised. I did my fair share of headgaskets on my Z24 motor. That's why I decided to do the KA swap after the last headgasket went.

U said it was knocking and pinging? My 720 did the same thing sounded almost like a rod knock I thought i t might be that or droped valve . So drained the oil and it had no metal shavings in it so I pulled the head and the valves were good. So figured its a spun bearing but what's the chance the knockin pinging sound could be the head gasket likne urs?

Ok shes back on the road. Overall not a difficult repair just time consuming taking everything apart. If the head gasket ever fails again...im paying a mechanic to do the labor :D

Ok finally got started on the shell. Sanding off the rattle can primer to expose the small spots that need to be filled in the gelcoat. Also im removing the black paint on the rear frame..when it's done it'll be polished.

Got more into the light swap today. I had to trim alot of the core & even sections of the light buckets to get them to sit at the right angle. As they sit right now im still going to redo the brackets i made & trim more of the grill but the hard part is over...

I now have both lights mounted & wired up. Wiring was easy, i just used the low/high plug [3 wires]. I will have to drill holes in the grill so i can access the adjusting screws tomorrow....

The hard part is keeping them straight in a line.

Ok the hood is now all 1 color & the cowl is bare metal w/ swirls / patterns & is clear coated. And i started on making a roll pan & plate bracket.....
