hey guys i need some info about my pathy first of all im gonna start bagging my pathy and im gonna start with the front. is there any tips or hints to make it easier. and then with the back i was told that i would have to weld some bars across the back of my truck so when i cut out the floor it wouldnt warp or what not...
all help would be great

The front to bag is basic. Unless your planning on it laying out. Then it gets complicated. The rear you will kinda need to worry about bracing when cutting but the front should be fine. What are you planning on doing and maybe we can help a lil more. Do u want to lay full frame? Or jsut want it to go down? If u dont want it to lay frame and are just gonna lay crossmember then u dont need to worry about the rear cuz itll only sit on the tires in the back.

to lay frame u need to either "z" the shit outta the front. or better yet do a yota front clip and or a stock floor bodied frame. pathys are a bitch thats why no one does them. for the rear you will have to rebuild damn near all of your rear floor, tub the doors for wheels. and youll have to devise a link setup to try and keep the back seat if u plan on keeping it.

Pathfinder_Destroyer

okm well this being my first bag job would you advise it or what

pugz
01-09-2010, 03:58 PM
ya its hard to keep your back seat with out being really creative with the link set up. and bineg your first bag job your definatly picked on of the hardest things to lay frame in. you gotta remember your working with all 4x4 suspension. so basically your converting a 4x4 to a frame laying 2wd. but with out the transfer case and front axles. ice is gonna be building mine over the next few months but hes doing a full custom chassis. but you might be able to get some ideas on how to keep the back seat. the pathys have over a foot of ground clearance too is something u have to think about. thats along way to the ground to get the suspension to work right. with out the "z" or a new clip its jsut not gonna happen

how would i go about the front clip idea

ok pugs this is mainly to you i wanna keep my six lug but i wanna be able to fit 6x5.5 wheels with out boring anything what do i need to do can i use a hardbody rearend but what would i do for the front

pugz
01-13-2010, 12:17 PM
You need to swap it over to hb brakes and spindles and hubs. The upper arms are close to the same but the lowers are different and the ball joint is different. But i think u could probably re-taper the bottom of the hb spindle to make it work. Or youll have to build new lower arms to accept the hb ball joints. The pathy hubs are huge. No matter what youll still need to bore your wheels. But it wont be bad. We all have to do it. Lol. The pathy rears and hb rears are about the same too. Some of the pathys with the disc brakes i think the axles are a lil longer than a hb rear but thats it. The rear wheels will still need to be bored out or find wheels with the big bore. Or you can always jsut order some billets

yota clip or full frame are your best bets to lay it out and actually lay frame

The bad thing it that whole truck is jsut sitting somewhere. I know some of the motor has been sold off. It was on mautofied and ssm for sale a lil while back. But i dont know whats going on with it as of now. Not even sure if chad still owns it

Pathfinder_Destroyer

I haven't heard anything about it in a long time. its just another one of those builds that should have stuck to the plan and was ahead of its time. one of the first to do a sheet metal dash. now its just another build that fell to the curse

It was sold a couple of years back for 4500. From what I understand the motor was all show. Pretty much a stock 305, never ran. Chad Lucas now resides in Boise, Idaho. Lol

Considerd using a full yota frame?

Sounds easy to do but a Pathy is one hellova proj for a first time proj.

Its already 5 stud,2wd so "easy to bag" , fab up body mounts to get the pathy sitting over the top nicely and then go about devising a 4link system.

Quite possibly easier than "z" this " taper that" "chop that out" etc etc.Not saying your idea is crap or anything like that Pugs, just another option you might like to consider.

Either way, I want to see some bagged Pathys haha.

Peace

well hey thanks man but i just think doing a full frame is a little out of my league but if anyone finds someone that has one im always down for it but where im from all thos frames and usefull things a minitrucker could use is given to them 4wheel drive yotas and other rednecks (im from the sticks so i can say that). soooo if anyone does come across a full yota frame plz let me know AND FOR EVERYONE WANTING A PATHY BUILD WITH FULL PICS ITS COMING as soon as suicide doors gets my stuff to me...

can I ask why you would be painting it first instead of last

Pathfinder_Destroyer
01-15-2010, 11:38 AM
im gonna say this and i dont want it to sound like im an azz but its cause i want to. im painting the body taking the fenders hood and bumper off and painting them ill put them back on after im done bagging it. lol

All i gotta say is good luck. Pathys are hard to lay. Thye are like trying to lay a land rover... No one does them for a reason. Lol.

You can swap the full frame to a yota or a hb frame. But youll have to redo the body mounts and other stuff. Plus u gotta watch things like wheel base differences between the frames. Post pics of the paint. I got a bad feeling about you painting it first since youll be welding to the body for wheel tubs and cutting the floor. So i can pretty much gaurantee that if u plan on laying frame on it once you paint it you will burn the paint. You gotta take into account that the inner wheel wells in the rear are part of the rear body. Its not like the trucks you have to make sure the inner cab is still sealed and fully welded due to exhaust fumes coming back it.

Id say pull it all apart and bag it since youll have to pull the motor to do the yota clip sway anyway. And then u can paint the firewall and everything while its all apart, and then put it back together when your done baggin it

01-15-2010, 11:16 PM
you see I ask cause I do paint my truck every couple of years to keep it fresh but I'm not done building it yet so I only spend $50 painting it. you know why cause I'm not done building it yet. so I am not going to waste my money on good paint to have to redo it after I do a new mod to the body.

sd.com can be slow on some things that u order from them. i think pmb is still waiting on his 4 link stuff that he ordered over a month ago. i ordered just bushing ends with sleeves and they shipped quick. i guess it depends on what u order.

If you have a few grand i am trying to remember which shop it is in tn i think it was will custom build you a frame. another option is to befriend a welder place an ad in craigslist in your area for a welder explain you dont have a lot of cash but you can get beer or whatnot if you work in a factory get to know one of your maintance guys that you see welding...most of the tme they are certified...Get yourself a yot or hardbody frame and measure what you need done..I am sure this isnt as hard as you make it out to be. I know it may cost you a few hundred to pay someone but what you get in return may be priceless...I myself would do the yota or a 3/4 frame with a yota clip it would be easier to work with.
