Thanks...yeah I made afast sketch up here but left it....Then halfway into a 6 pack leah asks me to do the pumkin' All I had was a large steak knife...Could have been nicer if I had taken my exacto blades home. Thought the airbrush would make a nice touch...especially since it was in an airbrush shop.

those are nice guys....forgot to mention it before...but I really like the Manson pumpkin jdoe44 just shaving the skin gives it a different look you don't see all the time...........

on another note, right after i finished carving the IL pumpkin, i moved the table that it was on and it took a dive straight to the floor. it broke it 2 places. pugz tried not to laugh and i tried to keep myself from throwing a knife at him (lol). luckily the pieces fit easily back into the pumpkin and we could still take pics.

Thanks James. I really like the airbrush on your pumpkin. It gives it a lot more depth. It took me about 90 minutes to carve it out.

did you put a candle in it? just wondering because someone else was telling me about carving and cutting at different depths to increase the intensity of the light...kinda like doing a relief sculpture but in reverse, so that the deeper cuts would be brighter. I may have to play around with this idea next year.

I really wanted to light it, but it's a lot bigger than it looks. I didn't get it until thursday night and they were all out of the cheap smaller pumpkins so it's probably about 20" with a rind that's 3-4" thick. A candle wouldn't have done anything, and I probably would have needed about a 75watt drop light in it, which would dry the thing out. (maybe even set it on fire?)

I do have a couple hundred red LED's that would have worked really nicely on a thinner shinned pumpkin. I could have rigged them up in parallel on a few d-cells and if the thing got smashed in the road it would be no big loss. Maybe next year. I've also heard of carving watermelons which could be interesting if they're cheap enough when they come into season.

They do all kinda neat stuff besides just cook food...I've seen carved melons and even Ice blocks. I used a blade like this on my pumpkin

I cut the original outline with a single edged razor blade(like you'd find in a box cutter), then used a v-shaped linozip blade to go over the outline and then a fat round linozip blade to remove the bulk of the material.
