So I will update as I work on it which will hopefully start soon. But who knows. So here is what it is now. And I will try do this step by step.

I cant promise that considering suicide doors will take forever with my 4link. Lol. But Ill try to update as much as possible. I should have some stuff coming in saturday and then some more like monday. I think monday or tuesday my box tubing, notch, 90degree bent tubeing, extra bushings, bridge bar/rear shock mounts, front torsion bag plates, front shock relocation, and all that business come in. Saturday my tank, compressors, valves, bags, fittings, air line, switch box(which I wont use) and some other odds and ends. Fuck. I forgot to order water traps....

What ever man. I think my eyes got a little bigger then my wallet on this project. It started as wanting a front to back on a simple 2 link with a 5gal tank, two viair 380 compressors, and 4 valves. To a 4link, front to back with a 8 valve set up, 5gal tank with 2 viair 480s, a dokota digi gauge, and stuff to turn my lower control arms into real contorl arms. This went from a $1250 idea to a $2300 idea faster then I could blink. If your your going to do it. Why not do it as big as you can i guess.

Yeah... I know. Sucks. Missed it by a couple days. The new unfourtant news to my project is my savings account has been hit by identity theft I just put a hold on it. So until I get to the bank and open a new savings account and have my claim investigated to get my money back that was taken this project could be at a little bit of a stand still. Sucks.

The kit rocks. 8 smc 3/8 valves, 2 viair 480s, relays, fuse holder, filters, 5gal multiport tank, preasure switch, tank gauge, nice switch box, 4 Firestone bags 2500s and 2600s, and ALL MY FITTINGS for $1,100. Ring up all that on SD.com and see how much it is. So definatly plugging them as much as possible. Put my tank and valves together cause I was bored.

So far www.coolcars.org has been the bomb for ordering air ride. Great stuff for a even better price. But the free shipping that got here in 3days topped it off. Not to mention ask them as many questions as you want before ordering. They get right back to you. Awesome service so far.

one thing to keep in mind is to weld you notch about 1/2 or 1" forward of you axle centerline... That way when your layed out your axle is in the middle of the notch... Cause when your suspension move up it also moves forward
Purpleminibeast
12-22-2009, 05:52 AM
It is. I doubt it will move half an inch forward. But I did move the notch up.

I know how you feel man. Since I've owned my truck I've never had a garage of my own to work on it in. Every time I wanted to something to it I would have to find a good day when my friend's not busy and willing to help and drive 35 minutes out to his house. Then what ever I wanted to do had to be a 1-2 day job since the truck was my only vehicle.
Now I have a new daily and I'm trying to find a second job so I can afford a place with a garage to rent. Once I get that, it's on!

Well today was eventful. Ran the new gas lines, emissions lines, extented the fuel electics, painted everything. Then while bending a brake line I must of hit with a grinder it ripped opened. So I fixed it by just bending up all new ones. One of my flares must suck though and im gettin a leak at one of my uniouns. So I gotta fix that. Then while tighting the hose to the proportioning valve wrench slipped and my hand it a sharp cornor on the bottem of the notch that opened it wide up. I might get stiches..... Tomorrow. Lol. But here is the updates for now. It runs, slight brake leak, stearing box feels funny from pushing it in and outta the garage so much with no power. Hope that goes away.

Got the bag plates in. Painted the upper triangle super flake silver which looks SICK against the black. The lowers will get the same treatment. Laid the truck out to make sure all my clearance was good and put the bag plates in. Only problems was to get them exactly where I wanted the frame gussets wouldnt fit. So I improvised by making some custom ones... They are very strong. Also got my new switch box and the rest of my fittings in.
The switch box is awesome. Small and only has the switches I want on it. Front, back, pancake, and each cornor to keep it level. No side to side. Also has a lock out on the side to shut the system down and a input to lay the truck out when I set my alarm. So I ordered some flow controlers for laying it out. Also go the rest of my fitting for my sending units and for my water traps.

But at least it will be done to the way you want it done. Not get what someones else vision of what they want it to look like. This way you dont get hosed like that poor kid with the Ranger on the other site.
Before you get it all done, you might want to grind down the welds on the notch to clean it up a bit. Make it smooth as a babies ass.

Well then come the hell over next time. Lol. Ill have chris call you next time. Probably spend all sat on it. Probably knock out the rear shocks, cut the bed, make the spacers for bed, put the tank in, plumb the rear and try wire everything. That way the rear atleast will work. Also need to try to move the exhaust up.
And Pugz... I know the feeling. Lol. Im already making a second list for the rebuild when I do the the full frame. I dont like that list much either.
Ya i dont like my 2nd list either. Thats where shit gets outta hand. Lol. But ill finish it this way. And then worry about that list

Did you buy the 2x3 new? I know for a fact I paid 59.40 for a 20 foot stick 3/16 wall this winter. Alot of the steel places rape you when you want only so much and end up selling the drop or recycling it and still made more than the entire stick was worth to begin with. I've gotten several killer deals going and checking the drop racks.

So today I wanted to get the back done, plumbed, and wired. Didnt happen. Still got a lot done. Got the lowers painted, shocks mounts done, shocks on, bed cut, bags in, and a lotta other little stuff. Even drug the piss outta it once already on laid out with the shrader valve. Truck rides good. Gets a ton of lift till the shocks max out. and the pinion doesnt move. Only problems is the ABS light kicked on and Service Engine Soon light came on. My day started off bad when I got my daily drive stuck in chris's yard. And that slowed things down a bit. Lol.

The reason I did the lower bars like that was so they were parrallel with the top bars. Had i just put them on the acctully cross memeber the lower bars would have caused a angle. I hit my lower bars and my upper bars with a angle finder just to make sure they were exact. I am very happy with the results of it all. The truck rides like glass in the back, and gets a ton of lift at the same time. The bags dont get a bad angle on them, nor do they fully compress when laid all the way out(which is good cause Stones have no internal bump stops).
if they arent compressing all the way that means u can fit 20s later :D

Truck is looking great Steven. Keep up the good work. Cant wait to see it whens its done.
I too had some fun getting around the yard today. My mom came back from camping with her 26ft. trailer. I got it out last Sunday without a hitch. Putting back a 4100 pound trailer, 5000 pound truck, makes for some hilacious ruts in the yard. Then had to unload my 12ft. enclosed and had to back through the same shit. This time with my Nissan. It went easier but almost got her stuck. The Nankang NS II's did quite well in the mud.
Damn I need a concrete driveway. Or a big ass load of gravel for now.

Lol. No someone just still lives with his parents to afford building his truck. I mean no doubt I make good money. But between 3 vehicles, 2 with payments, 3 insurences under 25, cell phone, health care(must have), and gas the way it is. If I had rent to top it off the truck progress would slow a lot. But. After I get my contorl arms, and bed cover I will start looking for a place of my own. I doubt it will have a pound surrounding it. Maybe a swamp with like bodies floating in it. Lol.

So moving on with this. Not even sure where I left off. But I got the rest of my stuff to finish up my front. My CANDO control arms. Which The uppers I have already laid some base paint on. I still need to mount the lowers and weld the mounting bracket to the frame. Paint it. Make the shock mounts to the lowers. And paint them. Also starting to gather and paint some motor parts for the body drop I got coming up in a couple months. I wanna basicly do it like Ven did for his wifes truck and paint finish and paint everything under the hood and get it done and outta the way now while I have the chance.

As for the finished product the truck is gonna be Caddy Platinum ice white, with a lip stick red interior kinda like the old vettes. Im doing a fully sheet metaled and painted engine bay as long as matching the valve cover and all the front suspension to the paint. Its gonna be really just classy and basic. Taken her down the the rockers. Gonna paint the back sides of my billets to match. As you see Im gonna run the E-Level system. Just a lotta cool trick stuff I wanna get knocked out while I have some money. I have acctully been working on it for a couple months already. Finally got the cab on and down to the pinch. I got some more cutting in front to get the cab on the rocker. But she is finally coming together. And its good to see it on the ground.

this build is moving insanely slow do to the heat here and the fact I work on it 2 days a week. Here is a pic of it with the planels back on trying to check all the gaps and welding in the wheels wells, trans tunnel, and drive shaft tunnel. I'll get more pics this weekend if I can make some progress in the 105 temp.

if you wanna do a under construction I can get it to lay out all the way this weekend. I dont know if Chris will have time to shoot the wall. Plus it would put me out of the garage the whole day waiting for the overspay to settle.
then start putting up some posters. lol

After this all the electrical and mechanical will get done and everything ready to pull the body back off and get the under hood area ready for paint and the Accuair and frame work finished.

Air conditioning blower box modification to clear the wheel tub. Just cut what I needed outta the blower box for the wheel well to clear. This sensor that I am not totally sure what it was does was in the section of the blower box i cut. I slotted the box and moved the sensor down. And then plastic welded the abs plastic in to seal it back up.

Well mostly I have been up to trying to get the mechanical back in and going. Had to mod one of my freshly fit fender tubs to get the brake booster back in. Luck would have it when the truck lays it had some space. Hopefully when the toe out happens from the tie rods it will all still clear.
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/310508_2350829564612_1066299193_2765993_1282800296 _n.jpg

Also found a hood with some more clearence. Only problem is it doesnt seem to be matching up to the the grill right. Almost like the hood is too long. It might just be cause its a cheap aftermarket. Either way. Ill figure it out.
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/296253_2364693471201_1066299193_2776456_1942813623 _n.jpg
Stole Ven's idea for the intake. Helps make it clear the hood a lot. Thanks Ven. Still have to make a custom mount for it and so the vacume stuff can hook up to it.
http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/297709_2412675550723_1066299193_2815938_746686926_ n.jpg
And finally the clutch was not going back into the original location because the location was completely gone due to the wheen tubs. So I went I ordered this.

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/381872_2462741122331_1066299193_2858555_1585921467 _n.jpg

Not exact. But its DAMN close.
Now I have just been working on the wire harness shortening it up just a little bit for the main computer. Then after the wiring gets done its all being disassembled for final welding and paint under the hood and finishing the frame and accuair.

$198.00 before shipping
alum non res master ( I only did this so I could still fill it under my hood)
5/8" bore (factory is also 5/8" bore)
12.25 pedal lenght (no extra and your probably going to cut it up anyways)
Round remote res (you can pick whatever you want.)
And no easy fill cause my res is right under my hood.

You could prolly install the xterra grill and headlights an it would probably all line up, cuz that truck and the xterra bodies are all the same. Just depends on which frontend your wanting.

I appreciate that. The hardest part is for me to stay inspired. With only sat and sun to work on it. And those also being my only two days off for myself as well and make time for the truck its been tough. Fortunately I have had good friends to help get me through all the times I just want to quit and part it out. Hopefully with the help of my club it will be a fully done truck for lone star throwdown.

the first gen xterra hood and grill are a little different but the fenders and such will still work. you dont need the bug eye lights just the center grill from a 98-00 X and everything should line up.

Just a little update. With Lone Star Throwdown around the corner I have been trying to get all the sheet metal done so I can put the cab on the frame for the last time. So here is what I have been up too.
