thanks guys, i have everything i need to bag the front minus a few fittings...where's the best place to get those? home depot? i'm hoping to get the bags w/ schrader valves put on in about a month...then i'll drive it home and hook up the air management.
my main question is....once i take the t-bars out, how do i know where to weld the bag brackets? like how do i set that up?
kaoss
03-25-2010, 09:58 PM
No, do not use home depot fittings. You should be able to source what you need at a shop that works on big rigs, not to mention there are tons of sites online like suicidedoors.com and I think airridefittings.com that sale fittings.
GrantH
03-26-2010, 03:40 AM
Aaron, i've told you before I can get anything you could want for baggin the truck you just gotta plan out what fittings you need.
Also, do you still have the titans or did they get sold?
jcjcsoccerkid
03-26-2010, 12:04 PM
i sold em

cant wait to see this thing laid out! what size tires are you running? i have 245/45r17s and they look like monster truck tires compared to yours lol
jcjcsoccerkid
04-06-2010, 06:10 PM
i liked the titans a lot better too...less common and they matched the paint perfectly when it was silver. i wish i would've never gotten rid of them.
and i can't wait to get it laid out either man...should be a few weeks and the front maybe will be done. i have 205/40s...i love them. they're rubber bands
onelozu
04-27-2010, 04:32 AM
yeah i just got some 205/40s..got tire of mud ridin lol deff not changing my own tires again lol...and why did you get rid of them? they looked super clean on it

jcjcsoccerkid
06-14-2010, 02:52 AM
some new shit! saturday morning i started bagging the front.
thanks to Mr. Ryan and 98frontier for all the help. this was my first time so i was pretty confused through most of it.
my fittings havent came in the mail yet so i dont have air management at this point. i have everything already, just waiting on the fittings so i can install it.
BUT i did put the front bags on. they're on schrader valves now aired all the way up. i cant lay it out yet, which is kinda annoying cause i wanna see it on the ground. i'll be able to once i hook up the air management
here's some pics. i'm using slam re-6s...i'm really hoping this is full lift b/c i jacked the truck up and the UCA touched the bag. not good. so maybe this will be max lift. we'll see. also, is it normal for the bag to fold over the lower bag bracket when fully compressed??

06-14-2010, 02:56 AM
i not sure if you will have this problem but watch turning very sharp because theres a fitting on back of caliper that hits my bag and rubs bad spot in them caused me to lose one bag going 70mph. NOT FUN
jcjcsoccerkid
06-14-2010, 03:01 AM
haha yea that would suck. i've heard that before so i havent been turning sharp. i heard you can put a bolt somewhere so it wont let the steering turn that far. how do i do that
1lownismo
06-14-2010, 04:20 PM
there are bolts in the spindle already just back them out it will limit your turning.Another way i found on mine was not to turn it all the way aired up i would just tap my switch once the fender sat right above the fender and had more then enough clearence this way the bag isnt as inflated and no where near the bolts on the spindle. i blew a bag running it locked up and turning sharp then i found this method to work and havent blew a bag sence.

alot of people angle the bottom bag plate up so the bag isnt at such an angle.

well too late now lol, will it hurt it folding over the lower plate?
yea its all good lol but where did you find chrome eskies for 100?!
craigslist my friend, someone took them off to put on some bigger wheels. his loss was my gain

Stick is the stongest welding you can perform on steel. It might not be as clean and the range of welded material is limited, but its more than sufficient for this application.
Looks good Aaron. There is a set bolt that screws into the spindle that hits the lca when your a full steering lock.
jcjcsoccerkid
06-14-2010, 10:35 PM
is there a little tab that sticks up from the lca that it hits?
....may have cut that off haha. i was in the zone with the cutoff wheel, and i figured it needed to go
$krap_IN_flesh
06-14-2010, 10:44 PM
yes it sticks up on the LCA

You wanna ride to Laural Wednesday morning....like early wednesday morning...
Yota is taking it's real first trip and need a follower/partner for the ride up. My mom said she would follow if noone else was available...but figured you may want to ride. I'll take a look at the steering lock as well for you....
also...for the upper arm...you can trim that a good bit without losing strength. i noticed as well and you can probably lose a 1/4 inch or so on the inside lip so it won't hit the bag.
jimmy726
06-15-2010, 01:18 AM
stick welding is defiantly strong thats why they use it to construct building its just not pretty
jcjcsoccerkid
06-15-2010, 02:39 AM
grant, how early would we have to wake up? ha i may be feeling lazy that day. also, i still have the little steering stop tabs i cut off the lca. we may need to tack those back on one of these days

in this picture if you look to the right side of the pic at the bottom you see a triangle piece on the side of the lca where the spindle is at the same angle there is a bolt or should be a bolt if there isnt this is where you would make some type of way to stop the spindle from turning.it is the piece that is directly under the tie rod. like i said another way to stop it is to not lock it up when turning.
jcjcsoccerkid
06-15-2010, 12:41 PM
yea i cut those off. i'll have to weld something back on there, or just do like you said once i hook the switches up
bodydraggin88
06-17-2010, 04:49 AM
Tig Welding is actually the strongest type of welding on steel..
Just a slow process

06-24-2010, 02:46 PM
and for anyone who is considering it....do not get 1/2" valves. they're way too fuckin fast. it jumps up so fast it's ridiculous. i slowed the dumps down with a 1/4" adapter and it was STILL too quick. i put 1/2" plugs in the dump holes and drilled a 5/32" hole in them. it slowed it down a lot, but it's not too slow. it's much more controllable now
jimmy726
06-24-2010, 03:39 PM
yep 3/8 on 3/8s is all you need. Just think just a few years ago people were trying to go as fast as possible 5/8 everything lol
jcjcsoccerkid
06-24-2010, 03:49 PM
yea i wish i had 3/8" fills, but oh well too late now. i think 3/8 dumps are too fast, at least for the front. i may put 3/8 dumps on the back since its not as heavy.
i remember a guy in high school had a mazda with 3/4" fills and dumps, it was fuckin stupid fast. just a sure way to fuck up your truck if you ask me
GrantH
06-24-2010, 07:21 PM

Truck looks sweet blue, and the rear setup looks nice, like the simple 4-link cross member. Hows your instant center looking, is it at a good point with the lower link bars going to the factory leaf mounts?

they're not in the factory leaf mounts, we put mounting brackets before those on the bottom of the frame so they're back and a little farther up

In hindsight I wish I would have done this. I'm surprised mine looks as good as it does being routed on top of the round notches, but I still think I'm going to run some chromed hard line to freshen it up after she hits the paint booth.

go for it man! it makes it so much easier to run wires and lines back there. it wasn't my idea so i can't take credit for it, but i love it!
here's a couple more pictures. we finally finished it up last night at 10.
here's the setup with the bed on. my buddy that did the work had a great idea of mounting the tank. we took the stock tank brackets and welded 2 pipes on each side to lift it up and then those are welded to angle iron that is mounted to the floor. that way i don't have to use that metal strap. it's a lot more solid. i just have to figure out how to shorten the gas filler neck...anyone got any ideas?
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c127/jcjcsoccerkid/DSC01149.jpg
as soon as we got done last night i drove an hour north with it. it rides perfectly other than not having shocks. we'll get around to putting those on. i woke up this morning and snapped a couple pictures.

here's the lift...almost lifted all the way in the back and the front is like 3/4 of the way up. gets a pretty decent amount of lift haha. it's dominator 2600s mounted halfway down the bar. they're mounted on the upper bars

Hey aaron on the gas tank when I had mine mounted kinda like that, I just cut the filler almost a inch below where the side vent tube is and then cut the rubber hose real short to get real close to the neck of the tank. Hope I explained that right lol....
Oh by the way trucks looking great man....

We have the valves mounted like that on my buddies mazda and after a year or 2 it cracked around the bung on the tank were the valve screws into from the weight of the valve bouncing up and down over time. not that its a big deal, we just bought a new tank but i thought i would just let you know.

what kinda paint was the purple? wanna prime my mitsu about that color

mine are on the uppers...but most people with bag on bar setups do them on the lowers, using square tubing for the lower bars. build a x-member right behind the cab with a notch in the middle for the driveshaft to be able to clear. lower bars are parallel to each other, and parallel to the ground at ride height (i think). they'll mount to the underside of the aforementioned crossmember. bag mount on the side of the frame and lower bag mount on top of the lower bar...around halfway down the bar is pretty normal, you can move it further forward or back...further forward gets more lift but gets more of a squishy ride. for the upper bars just mount the bars on the axle and make them go in to mount on the crossmeber like this / \
that's about the jist of it, someone correct me if i made any errors
what kinda paint was the purple? wanna prime my mitsu about that color
it was PPG brand...it was supposed to be darker but the guy gave me the wrong primer and when i mixed in the color it was lavender

Thanks bro, I've got the gist of it. I got a buddy making my 4link for me, just looking for some ideas to change it up from the norm, that's why I asked about yours cause the bags on the upper bars like that is different and looks good. By the way, the purple is coming off my wheels too, so don't feel bad. It faded so much just like your paint.
