I'm a fairly new member on this forum, but definitely not new to Nissans. The day has come for me to move on from my tuner cars and get into trucks, or SUV's in this case. I am a huge fan of the S-Chassis cars (Nissan 240sx), and I am currently in the process of selling off some parts to put aside some money for a Nissan SUV or truck. I have narrowed it down to the R50 Pathfinders and the WD22 Xterras. (Would love the N50, but not in my budget).

I am looking for a reliable daily, and gas efficiency. I travel at least 100 miles a day just to go to school and back.

I like the Xterra XE model with KA24DE, 5 speed trans (Same as my current car) but it lacks in power. I was also looking at the Xterra SE Supercharged model, but gas efficiency is a concern. BTW, what is the MPG on the SC Xterras? I'm looking for at least 20 MPG, my commute is mostly highway. I also like the V6 Pathfinders equipped with the VQ35DE.

So basically I'm looking for an SUV with somewhat decent gas mileage, reliability, and at a fair price. Ease of mods/working on the car is a plus...haha. I do plan on getting some bigger offroad wheels possibly and a few minor mods to make it look better and perform better, but I don't want to get too far ahead yet.

Oh and I forgot to add, I will be getting a Nissan truck as well, but for the meanwhile I want a SUV to drive around till I can save up for a nice truck project. I just want a cheap daily for now.

Any help would do, and I look forward to becoming a valued member on this forum :thumb:

avoid the SC xterras at all costs. too much hassle, needs premium gas, and drinks it fast with no feeling of speed.

i had a regular 02 XE and i was lucky to get 16mpg. so if gas mileage is your thing, look into a CRV if you need the space, otherwise get a car.

Awww bummer.
I wanted to stick with Nissans =/
I also considered the Rav4, but it looks too tiny for me.
Only 120 HP FWD.

I looked it up and the SUV's arent too great on gas mileage.
I would like at least 20 MPG.
I might just settle with a Frontier with the KA engine

SWMBO has a 4WD Ford Escape Hybrid. Get's 32mpg overall, has 90k on it in 3 years and it's been a great little rig for trips, camping, berry picking, grocery getting, commuting whatever.

The v6 Escape is suppose to be getting in the low 20's to high teens for mpg's. I wouldn't be afraid of it at all based on our experience with the hybrid.

A Hybrid would be great but Im looking at a budget of 5k or less
I might just settle for a car and pick up a hardbody truck project.
I have a fresh KA24DE from my car and a few other parts that would work for it so that might be my plans.

The brand new rav4's with the v6 are fast as fuck!!! 266 hp in a small SUV, an you can get it AWD well full time 4wd... And they get decent mpgs kkb says 19/27.. but its pricey and i dono if you want a brand new car..

it is not awd or full time 4wd it has a viscous coupling that locks it in when needed without driver input. which means its fwd until the viscous coupling heats up and locks it into 4wd. yes the v6 models are fast actually fastest model on toyota line.
