front suspension is out. front bag mounts have begun. id have more pictures but i had to split a little early.
front should be bagged today or tomorrow. then we move on to one of the other 300 things on the checklist.

another small update. the house of hack looks more like the house of nissans. there were 4 of them there on thursday, and unfortunately, matt had to finish up another customers ride since it was a small job.
the front bag mounts are done. my camera died before i could get a pic of the lower arms. but, for your viewing pleasure, bag mounts!:

notches are in and they are beautiful. 4 link is layed out and just needs to be fully welded. matt showed me how much the pinion angle changed throughout the range and it appeared to be .00001 degree from maxed out to laid out. he is that damn good.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_0865.jpg
reassembly has begun in places. the wiring harness is back in. the inner workings of the dash are going back in. this shit is a major pain in the ass.
doesnt look like much but its a big step forward. more to come.

i swear. this ice fella. he is very sneaky. i got there today and made almost a full lap around the bed wondering if he had started on it. then i came up to the garbage can and saw this
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_0981.jpg
so i took a real close look at the bed, and he had bodydropped it and i hardly noticed. very sneaky.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_0982.jpg
thats the only picture that you can tell its dropped. doesnt make for good updates. not many pictures.
so who wants to see my battery terminals?
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_0985.jpg
Woot!
i spent the day crawling around under the truck running power and grounds. in theory, this truck only needs gas to run.
we also spent a good hour jamming wires thru the damn notch. we'll think it thru a little better next time so its a little easier

more work on the bed. forgot the camera today so im lacking in pictures. i got a few that matt sent me the other day.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/100_1017.jpg
he began prepping around the tailights for the fillers and began to find some bondo.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/100_1018.jpg
so he explored a little ways out and found more. 1/4" thick in places
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/100_1020.jpg
this is what it looked like. a moderate dent, pulled in places, and filled with bondo in the rest. stupid carfax.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/100_1010.jpg
and he has been working on my skin.
more updates next week.

there is one brace at the top, and one in the middle. there still needs to be another pair of braces welded in so its far from finished. more pics when we make more progress

the cut line starts on the bed floor, runs up the pillar the taillight is mounted to, runs along the top of the bed under the rail, drops down to the front of the bed. matt has told me every bed he does is slightly different depending on what the finished product will be. so yours might be a little different. we still need to seam seal and do some clean up work, so its another checkbox on our to-do list. if you have questions, direct them towards matt.
those following the sound deadener install (anyone?? )
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_1042.jpg
first thing today i sprayed some liquid sound deadener from second skin. the product is called spectrum and as you can see, its a pretty shade of magenta. . . er i mean purpleish blueish. it dries to a gray color and functions like a mat product. its just easier to apply to complex surfaces. drying time is relatively slow on a 45 degree rainy day tho. i only got one coat on today.

i spent most of the day watching paint dry. sprayed another couple of coats of sound deadener. it dries with a nice grey textured finish.

couple shots of the fuel "cell". and yes i am hard core enough to sound deaden the inside of it. we(or at least I) spent 15 minutes beating on it like monkeys surprised at how little deadener it took to make it lose its metal sound.

matt shaved the antenna hole today. didnt take long. rolled the lips on them while he was hammering. and he tigged it. just thought id mention that. he's also finishing up on the bed. holding out on pics of that right now since its still in a rough idea state. pics of that next week.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_1114.jpg
the truck is getting much closer to being done. so close, we had to put the dash back in. sounds easy, but its a huge pain in the ass. rerouting wires because of the bodydrop is one of those things they never tell you about. "oh youll be low. lay rocker. its great. chicks dig it. theyll give you head" you never hear about how all those wires that run along the door sill need to be moved to the center or relocated. that alot of crap to deal with. not to mention everything in the dash. like forgetting one plug on top of the a/c and having to struggle trying to get it in without pulling the dash back out.
but here's the good news, we hooked up the kinetik 2400 battery, and she fired right up. old ass gas with a towel in the throttle body and she fired up. she ran pretty good once the rag was removed. got a CEL but i think its because the sensor for the air cleaner isnt hooked up. among other causes. and an airbag light is on. my truck is asking for airbags, and it shall receive. soon.

next week im pulling a double header. ill be there thursday and friday trying to get it rolling for spring fling the very next day, saturday. matt should be wrapping up the body work this week. then a bunch of little crap and blah blah blah yall quit reading when the truck wasnt on the ground.
03-12-2007
this weeks update. the truck did not make it to spring fling. i made the call about 8pm friday that it would be better to wait and show what matt is capable of, then to rush him and show half assed. the weather cooled off and the primer was taking too long to dry. then the brakes decided to be a pain in the ass. so we said fuck it, lets get some sleep and enjoy the show instead of beating ourselves up and worrying.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_1162.jpg
all the air goodies installed. still gotta handle a few leaks tho. you can tell i was rushing for the show because the wires are just kind of everywhere. ill clean that up thursday.

minor updates. ive been piecing her back together. putting in trim pieces, seat belts, mirrors, etc
still got a few things to do before she comes home next week.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_1231.jpg
got the valve cover put on. soon as its out of the dusty house of hack ill clean up the engine.
hooked up my h4s and got the corner lights and bumper lights ready. as soon as matt is done making my custom grille inserts ill put them on.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_1236.jpg
i was having an issue with valves sticking so i played with the switches for a while.

04-06-2007
the truck will be shown at unite in may and STC in june. im sure MT will notice it.
double header thursday and friday, hence the late updates
started piecing together the front end. note the custom bumper inserts made by matt.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_1242.jpg
put on the badge of honor. its a tad small tho.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_1244.jpg
put the grille on and took her to the gas station for a fill up. matt is still working on the grille to match the bumper inserts.
time for a change of scenery. i brought her home
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_1247.jpg
she made the 100 mile trip without any problems. she needs a muffler and a cleaning but thats about it. no dragging yet tho because the cat is the lowest common denominator and im keeping it. so no draggin the cat. more updates as they come.
04-12-2007
strangely enough, another thursday update. first stop this morning was the muffler shop. i took the truck over to klein muffler in gulfport (any local guys, take note, they are good)
got a new exhaust from downpipe back. new cat, turbo muffler, turndown tip, for under $275. the new cat is throwing a CEL but the truck runs great.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_1250.jpg
then it was off to the alignment shop. on the way from gulfport to diberville, i figured id take the new highway (605 i think) and noticed how well it was paved. and how few people were around. and how i needed to get rid of the tow hooks up front. so i did
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_1248.jpg
what the hell, try a little rocker while youre at it.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/inbuildthread/IMG_1253.jpg
the rocker session was pretty short tho. the sight of smoke and smell of burning seam sealer made me pull it back up. ill get some drag pics tho when i get a little bit of extra metal put on the underside.

we had some talented people work on my truck and most of the credit goes to mat and james. im still waiting for cooler weather before i dive headfirst into putting the interior together. but ill keep yall updated as i go.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/scottxgtr/IMG_1725.jpg
and thats how its been since. minor things have happened, but nothing major. i got off and running fast, but now im like a lot of others, trying to find time and money to finish it. updates to come later on.

I believe you are talking about the relay box that isnormally mounted on the Passenger inner fender? I think Scotty moved his back to the firewall.
if you install a tailgate skin does that mean you lose your tailgate functionality?
A full skin yes...With a full skin you get a formed piece of sheet metal that takes place of the gate as well as your roll pan all in one piece. Although you can purchase a tailgate skin....this will just replace the stock skin on the gate with a new one that includes the body line and shaves the handle.
oh and 02GreenFronty it really wasn't on stands long considering it rolled in stock and in 7 months it was the way it sits now.

the heater and a/c can stay with a 2.75 bodydrop.
you see those 2 bolt holes to the right. mine runs thru that general area, with a new grommet that ice made. we had the entire harness out at one point in time, so it wasnt too hard to reroute some parts of it.

scott, I noticed 2 new primer spots on the back of your truck, did you remove or add something new?
nothing new... had some type of primer reaction ... maybe due to the moister in the air when we sprayed it. only thing we can come up with... ive asked painters , paint shops and everyone else... so we had to sand the primer off and respray it.... looks like scotty went over it with a better matching green.. lol

Scott - I jus read through your whole post - damn that's alot of reading! Anyways congrats on your mini - I love it! I remember seeing it on the other... (site name here lol)
But I dont remember seeing a build thread on it! - Only the Mini Truckin' Magazine pictures of it!
I seen you said "maybe mini truckin' will notice it" lol - and they did!
Only thing is... you have all these pictures right... BUT NO MINI TRUCK MAGAZINE ONES!
I tried finding the right issue to scan it for everyone to see, but can't find it anywhere! (seems I leave em at buddies shops n garages alot lol)

the tension rod mounts are being moved ip on the front crossmember. its part of the body drop. Its easier to weld on new mounts with the crossmember on the bench anyway, and you gotta cut it off to Z the frame.

ScottXGTR

the first one sucked. second one worked well. broke. second one version 2 lasted a while. broke. second one version 3 lasted a few months. broke. its time for version 3. either that or quit dragging ass.

^^^Thats the reason mine resides in my back window (temp style) and I can shave it at every show  Seriously when I had mine in my rollpan I tore it off 5 times, 4 when it was in primer and once after I painted it (which was painful due to the fact I couldnt just spot it in like when it was in primer. I basically re-painted the entire bed inside and out because there are No good break-offs. Reflecting back The best option is adding a tag pocket in the tailgate IMO.

02-18-2009, 04:35 PM
Hey scotty for the time being you could get a magnetic sign blank, mount your tag on it...then stick it anywhere you want on the back :D Remember, like my friend Shane's Tacoma at STC. Just wouldn't have a tag light.
ScottXGTR
02-18-2009, 10:48 PM
for the time being ive been driving around with it on the passenger seat. lol. no problems as of yet.
ive always liked a clean fully shaved tailgate. my old tag bracket hung pretty low and the only time it would hit would be backing out of a steep driveway or something similar. the new one is going to be lower profile so there's less chance of breaking it off. and as always, 2 bolts will take it off at a show.

im puttin my valves on my truck and i had a shop put me together all my fittings and it came out lookin like the pic of the valve setup on page 2 where it says ' (note, not assembled properly. lol ) soo did i assemble them wrong or did they sell me the wrong fittings!
ScottXGTR
02-18-2009, 11:42 PM
my valves were assembled in the correct fashion, i just put them together not noting which way the direction arrows were pointed on the valves. i had to flip a few of them the other way around.
green97nissan
02-18-2009, 11:47 PM
oh well mine are assembled just like that but when i fill the tank it lifts the truck up then i have to hit the fill and dump buton to drop it ! and if i just hit the drop button it dumps the air out of the tank!!?? whyys it doing thatt!

Wired wrong, wrong sequence of valves.. They could be turned backwards.
green97nissan
02-19-2009, 12:24 AM
is this right? both arrow are going right toward the dump valve..
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee98/97nissan/004-1.jpg
ScottXGTR
02-19-2009, 12:28 AM
you want the arrow pointed in the direction the air needs to go and stay. both arrows should be pointed away from the center
is this right? both arrow are going right toward the dump valve..
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee98/97nissan/004-1.jpg
the valve on the bottom is backwards....
like scotty said.. the arrow should be pointing in the direction of the air....
so the bottom one should be pointing towards the directions of the bags
green97nissan
02-19-2009, 04:02 AM
is it suppose to dump a little air out of the tank when u hit the dump switch
04nissanfrontier
02-19-2009, 04:35 PM
The dump valve needs to be mounted in between the fill valve and the actual air line it self.
If you are looking at the pic, the valve on top needs to be moved in between the valve on the bottom and the actual air line via a (T). And no, when you hit the dump valve you should not lose any tank psi.
Hope that helps holla

ha! glad you cought that.. your right.. (ill blame myself on being sick for not catching it .. LOL) he dont have it set up right...
need to have it set up way its explained above...
should be coming from the tank to the Fill valve, from the fill to a T , one side of the T is gonna be the dump valve , other side will goto your bags.. and the arrows are suppose to be pointing in the direction of the air flow.....

Napa sells it as well as car quest try to get the 3m kind. But the napa brand works well too. Try to stay away from the clear its kinda hard to see the area you covered.

Im pretty sure it was 12-15$ the last time i bought it. It comes in a caulking like tube you will need a caulking gun for it but their cheap you can usually get them from the dollar store.

figured since i talked about, and ive been so busy this week id post up the new tag bracket. similar to the previous one, except its closer to the bed, and kicks up more at the tag to help avoid the concrete. the major improvement is that after i bent the tubing, i filled it with long fiberglass strands and resin making it super strong (hopefully). also means the wires had to be run on the outside, so i covered the whole thing in some expandable sleeving (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=082-348)

Yeah, but the sign blank couldnt hold up to the heat of the sun. By Sunday afternoon it was dead, Shane couldnt get the thing to stick for nothin. It's a good idea, just needs a better grade magnet I guess.
ScottXGTR
05-03-2009, 04:34 PM
if i really wanted to go the magnet route, id use some of the spare neo magnets i have laying around. last time i checked, a neo magnet the size of a pencil eraser can hold up a full size shovel.
:D
the new bracket is working good. not even a scratch on it from hitting pavement.

you drop the body.
you drop the bed.
you have to drop the crossmember so the fenders line up with the body.

it really is a nice looking truck and a very good write up but how about some numbers...
how much did it cost????
ScottXGTR's
10-08-2009, 05:59 PM
I don't really have a concrete number. A couple thousand in labor, a couple thousand in parts. So many different things went on at once so a lot of it was a package deal.
If you need some numbers for your ride, hit up mat and he can give you some starting numbers. Or his hourly rate.
