Ok, I think that either I am crazy, or all the parts stores are f@*%ing idiots!!!!
I broke an outer tie rod end while installing my Belltech drop spindles. (whacked it on accident trying to break the old spindle loose) I went to the massive KragenShucksEct... warehouse and asked for a 2wd, 4cyl, 2002 Frontier Outer Tie Rod End... They said: "we've got that... here you are." and handed me a T.R.E. that was not a joint with a threaded shaft like the original (male), but was a joint with a sleeve (female). I said "that's not the right one", and they said, "yes it is." I SHOWED them the original, and they still insisted that this Mystery Part was the correct one!!! I had them bring out EVERY Nissan truck T.R.E. they had in stock, and none of the years were the same as mine!!! the only one they didn't have in stock was a '99 T.R.E., which I had them order, and I'll check tomorrow.
The one I need has about 2" of threaded (fine pitch), directional shaft, and a castle nut on the ball joint, with hole for cotter pin.
DOES ANYONE ELSE KNOW WHAT PART WILL FIT???
THANKS. GOING NUTS!!!!

I have a 2001 4cyl and I couldn't get tie rod ends. In the past few years Nissan decided that they had a shitty design for the steering linkage on my truck. They stopped selling individual parts, and instead they market a complete linkage kit that includes tie rod ends, drag link, pittman arm, and a new idler arm assembly. The part number is 48500-3S121 and the cheapest I've found it is here. Courtesy Parts (http://www.courtesyparts.com/assy-linka-p-370436.html)
I'm not sure if it's the same deal with the 2002 model year, but a trip to your stealership should put you on the right track. Expect the part to cost $80-$100 more there than online.

!!!! wow that is bullsh@#t!!!! I know the old assembly is shit, but I should still be able to get the stupid part!! Did you end up buying from Courtesy? How long did it take to arrive? Did it make any difference compared to the old setup? (basically was it worth it, or should I scour the pick-a-part and hope for an '02?)

Nissan changed manufactures about two years after that design was made and the new manufactuers part will not work on the old ones. PM me your VIN and I will get you a deal. If you want.
a new linkage assy will run you 301.13 at your local dealer, I can get it for employee price for 199.00, plus shipping. but get me your VIN to double check if you need the whole thing or not. We keep them in stock and can have it to you in a couple of days.:thumb:

Allright... with a little help from VG30E, I've got a new steering assembly on the Fronty'. (Thanks brotha!)
I was kind of bummed on spending $200+ after not being able to find a replacement $30 tie rod end... but after installing the entire assembly- the steering is waaaay tighter, no play!
feels good. Now all i has to do is grind down the tie rods so i can get it aligned!!! (toe out majorly right now! duck feet!

I kinda felt the same way when I got my linkage... why the fuck couldn't I just buy this one piece? But the overall price for all those brand new parts is really a good deal and if they're anything like the originals, they'll last another 100,000 miles or so.
