I have a 85 720. I wanted to redrill the hangers to get that last inch. When I crawled under the truck I noticed that it doesn't bolt up the same way as described in other posts. It has a mount on the frame. Then it has a shackle type deal that bolts to the leaf. I thought about taking the shackle part out. Would the cause problems? Any help would be much apprecieated. Thanks

DO NOT LEAVE THE SHACKLES OUT!!!!! They allow the leafspring to move. Without them you will get no suspension travel and will most likely break your leafs. Depending on where they are located, you can, however, shorten or lengthen the shackles to alter your ride height.

The 720 front hanger is way different from the hardbody. The bolt head is made to fit in the oversized opening in the hanger, besides the hanger doesn't sit that low anyways.

if thats ^^^^ what we're dealing with here then yea a redrill isnt really an option for us then. The spot where you would put the hole and bolt is taken up by that little bolt, the lock-bolt-deal, idk what it would be called but as stated, you dont really have to, they dont hang that low.

I figured i couldn't take the shackle out. It's about five inches long how much shorter could i make it?

Thats exactly what a HB hanger looks like. Ours is more misshapen, but the same idea. Just measure it out to 1" up and drill... Or you can just drill out the smaller hole that is already there.

Is the shackle on top or bottom of the leaf? If its on top you lengthen it if on bottom you shorten. You can lengthen it till it hits the bed or shorten it by two or three inches.
