I just bought a set of used Belltech spindles, which came with the original instructions...
... and they say that: " because of the positioning of the steering arm on the new spindle, trimming of the length of the outer tie rod ends on both sides is necessary. The amount to be removed is approximately 3/16 to 1/4". Before trimming the end, mark the position of the tie rod end in the adjusting sleeve with a piece of tape around the threads. Trimming can be achieved by using a hack saw or a grinder..."

My question is: is this really necessary, or can you just use the adjusting sleeve to make up the difference??

thanks guys!

I had to trim a lot more than that. Over 3/4" cause they were still too long even when adjusted all the way in. Also shortened the sleeve.

make sure you put a nut on beyond the cut so you can unscrew it and take some of the burs off

Maybe rookie question: The tie rods control the Toe correct? So, if you don't trim them down, you would have Toe Out? If you trim them down, can you ever put the OEM spindles back on?

Yes, yes and yes. Even if you trim the tierods down you should have enough left to adjust them out for the factory knuckles.
