8 plugs on a 4 banger?

i just bought an 87 and was surprised to find 8 plug wires comming out of the cap and it has plugs on both sides of the head? i didnt have enough time before it got dark to poke around and cant find my fsm disc. (phatg20 is down) it's definately not an 8 cylinder, i'm not that stupid, lol. anyone have any info in this?

its a Z24i engine also know as NAPZ

You have a Z24i 4 cylinder engine.
2 plugs per cylinder. One is for intake firing, the other is for exhaust firing. Helps burn the fuel and exhaust so it runs cleaner.

you told me 8 hrs too late. i just did a tune up on it. one plug was seized in place, another the a$$ before me had cross threaded and left like that. it runs much better(it has 240k) but it bogs down if you floor the accelerator.

i have around 510k on mine still runs its an 86 only thing i had to replace was the trans

this thing needs alot of work to make it 100%, but i bought it as a parts truck for my crewfinder. in the meantime itll be my yard truck, parts chaser etc. pretty fun to finally drive a hardbody after owning 2 for 2 years, lol.

I love the z24 engine.thats what mine has. My first one had 400,000 when it let go. gota keep an eye on the timing chains. real bad for stretchn. :sheep:
