if you had a bad outcome with painting it yourself then i suggest paying them to strip it.

thats what i was thinking....
what does it look like...
did you clean it real good before priming and etc? cause all that Armour all and stuff threwout the years can stick in pretty deep and cause paint failure ...

if you do want to strip the paint off go to your local autobody supply store and buy a few cans of Peeler thats the actual name of it and it works great takes the paint off down to stock primer..but if the paints good just looks crappy scuff it and sand out runs then more practice:D

Are you doing a Candy Red?
Mr.Ryan
10-04-2008, 12:19 AM
Aside from a few curtains (sags or runs) that i see it don't look that bad just a lil thin in some areas, just scuff it back up a lil bit degrease it and spray it slowly in thin coats with a 50% overlap may take 3 coats to get it to look good then just let it dry and wetsand out the runs with 2000 grit paper and buff to a brilliant shine and viola

yeah its actually called cherry red but yeah its really. transparent my moms bf said that i needed to do a metallic base coat to not to use as much paint. but ill keep posting pics when progress resumes tomorrow. thanks guys for all ur help. im new to this shit so i didnt expect it to be perfect by ne means but not looking too bad.
Monster2TG
10-04-2008, 12:26 AM
Yea, I was going to say you would have needed to to a base coat followed by a few coats of the cherry red, then clear. I would actually just strip it and try it again, only way you will learn is through mistakes bro.

tru dat. ill probly just keep going and drive her for the winter unless my sis buys a new car then i can rock her saturn for the winter which i would actually perfer and strip it all off and start from scratch. i really do like the color though will look really good with some black 17's and a 1.8" drop.

Js, just sand it again. And start over... Just make sure to not spray too close(causes your runs) and to make full sweeps..
Try removing each panel(doors, fenders, hood) and painting them all seperate and by the time you get to the bed, you should be able to pull off that big of a piece.

To fix it you need to get a longboard aka muscleboard... get some 320 paper and block the car. Make sure you keep it flat and to go over your runs good. get some white sealer... we use dupont but there are other companies.
Spray the car with the sealer and let it flash really well, after it flashes start painting with the red, make sure you have pressure at gun around 28 lbs or it will moddel really bad. Keep making passes at about 8 inches away and use a 65% overlap on first few coats. Let it flash again and nib the car with some 800 to get rid of dirt and whatnot. put the last few coats on a little wetter then the other ones and make sure you go the entire length of the car. DONT STOP AT THE DOOR OR QUARTER!! Do the hood and follow the lines of the car.. After it flashes spray your clear and don't try to make it look wet first pass, make it kinda shiny first coat and give it a few minutes to flash. Spray second coat a little heavier and let flash. Spray third coat and make sure it looks uniform and wet everywhere.... If you taped off mouldings or emblems now is the time to unmask them so you don't have a hard line..... hope this helps

Honestly if it was your first time painting a car, you would have been better off sticking with a solid color. They're easier to work with. Candies and metallics are a little difficult if youve never sprayed before..
Also..theres a few other factors involved in your gun pressure but the type of gun and paint are your main factors in gun pressure. Your procedure from sealer to clear has a lot to do with what type of paint your using.
