View Full Version : hardbody dash bulbs --> LEDs
Has anyone swapped out their dash bulbs with LED's yet? I've got a few bulbs out in my '91's dash, and figured I might as well replace them with LEDs. Was wondering if anyone can give me the part numbers of the bulbs in my dash...
Thanks!

194 are the main ones and 74 are the small ones in the a/c controls

its mostly 194s. i cant remember how many 74's are in there, but its maybe 2. the only one i can really remember is the one in the a/c controls because its a bitch to get too.
if u got the stock 91 dash, then most of your cluster bulbs are gonna be 194s. and then like scotty said, 1- 74 in the hvac controls
and if u are really lucky, u will have one more in your ash tray and on the top of ur glove box.

from what ive read, the bulbs in the dash arent replaceable. you have to solder new led's in. not sure what style they are either. i havent dived into the cluster to check yet.
id love to get rid of the ugly orange tho.

its been forever since i posted anything, but up here in canada, we have a department store called Canadian Tire, which is similar to Walmart, which we also have up here. my point is, at this place the sell super bright LED 194 bulbs. I've actually tossed areound the idea of switching my gauges to white faced ones and swapping all the regular 194's for these 194 LED bulbs. If anyone is interested in what it would look like, or maybe buying a bunch and sending them to someone, let me know. I'm gunna be doing that conversion soon. pics when its done
Just finished the dash and A/C panel on my '91. Still have to figure out the A/C button and the floor shifter light...

First you take the 2 screws from the top like stated. Then you pull the black piece out. Then there will be 4 more screw 2 on the side and 2 more on top of the cluster take those out pull it out disconnect the harness and your good to go

digikey.com carries led's and led bulb replacements. They pretty much supply the electronics companies and have a $10 minimun order but the prices and selection rock. Solder in leds of any color...
It's probably where the store packaged leds are bought and then packaged.

Digikey is a good one...so is www.mouser.com (http://www.mouser.com)
HERE (http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?N=254249&Keyword=led&FS=True) is a quick link to the led filter section.
I have not bought from them in a couple of years, but back then there was no minimum order. Also you can call them up and get one of their in-house people on the phone...extremely knowledgable folks, and they will make sure you get exactally what you need.

I am running all cool blue in my dash with printed guages at the moment. 194's did the trick in the guage cluster however after a few months they will burn to white. the are easy to replace as for the A/C cluster have not ventured there just yet figured there are more interior changes that I would like to tackle B4 I go there. just finished installing the carpet buckets are on the agenda next, building brackets for z24 seats.
