so you want just a port-through right?
walk through= cut out back wall and window brace
blow through = cut out back wall below window brace OR just remove the rear window with a camper shell
port through = hole just large enough for the port
either way, youll need some accordian boot from a camper store. it seals out the elements and runs around $8 per foot. once you have that, its as easy as cutting a couple holes, while leaving enough lip to attach the boot too. round all the corners so the boot can follow the curve. start the boot at the bottom, using a little silicone to hold everything in place.
then add in your box.

Im bouts to do this ^^ but yea if you do, make sure to round the corners like skitty said. Ive heard a lot of times guys will cut them square and can never get it to seal right in the corners. Well without ugly globs of silicone.

Yep...for sure round those corners. My walkthrough in my 88 leaked like a sonofabitch at the bottom corners until we welded in some radiused corner filler pieces to round them out.
I plan on using a 3.5" or 4" hole saw to do the corners. And a long ass bit to drill from the bed into the cab for my hole saw guide holes. Just got to make sure to keep that long bit straight and level.
On my old setup I also laid a bead of silicone into the groove in the boot before installing it. I know it took more than a few tubes of silicone, but it was well worth it when it sealed up perfect.
i was thinking about doing this (http://www.truckinweb.com/tech/0511tr_trick_woofer_setup_silverado/index.html) it seems like a pretty good tutorial but i might make the port in the back a bit bigger than that one

Heres what i have goin on.. I cut the cab out completely under the window. Cut the bed to match and then replaced the cut out in the cab with 16 gauge sheet metal. Added the sub box.. I ran out of metal of course so all i have to do is cap it and then seal primer and paint heres some pics..http://infamousnissan.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=148&pictureid=991http://infamousnissan.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=148&pictureid=1723http://infamousnissan.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=148&pictureid=1721

^^^ looks good bro...when I helped my buddy do his in a dime he forgot to make braces underneath and figured it out when the weight had the cab flexing and sagging a bit...looks damn good tho. keep us posted on how it turns out!

Thanks man.. yeah I thought about that saggin issue .. I through some angle inside to help out ... the out side is still raw so I will make sure to throw some out there too... I have to get some more steel off this shop here in town.. only thing is that they have to make it when its ordered so it takes awhile.. But Im getting it soon.. Just want to get it closed in and get the rest of the inside of the bed shaved and then I will take some more pics...

so that box is attached to the cab ^^^? wouldnt that make it sort of a pain to get the bed back on?

naw its not as bad as it looks... As long as the bed it cut right it slides right under the box with no problems...And yeah its part of the cab now..
make sure to dynamat that metal box really good to make it sound right

Yeah It will be sound proofed. The subs will not be in that metal box them self, It is just to install the wood sub box in.. But yeah I know what you mean.. I took in to consideration about the ratteling thats going to come from that metal so Yeah It will be sealed somehow.

03-29-2009, 01:06 PM
Yeah I already thought of that one too.. Its going to get sprayed on bed liner.. The whole bed inside of course and the box where its in the bed... The rest will get painted

id say 1 layer of sound deadener inside and a coat of bedliner outside ought to cover it. what gauge metal did you use?

All I could get at the time was 16.. so I added some framing inside to base it a bit but can stand in it with not any flex at all..

16g is good. if you went any smaller i'd recommend extra sound deadener. :thumb:

lol yeah 16 I thought would be good enough I was actually going to go a little heavier but thought about the weight... But worked out good... I have to cap it yet and thats it other that the coating... damn I have to call the shop to see if my sheet is in yet.. I buy it 4x 8 sheets.. Its cheaper that way i seen.. around 80 bucks..
i was thinking about just making the port and them building a wood box and putting a cover on the bed cause i cant weld or anything =p ive been drawing up ideas in my drafting class at school but i probably wont actually do it for a while

no better time than the present to start learning how to weld, you'll save money in the long run and pay for itself in the long run:rolleyes:

to learn how to weld i would first need a welder :( my friend has one but he probably wouldnt let me use it unless he does the welding and his welds are hideous :p

I was thinking about doing that but heres an idea. even if you cover the bed ITs still going to get wet if it rains.. It will get in from in front of the bed... I hat that plan already..
