well Im kinda new here but have got my 720 to a point where I can start a build thread. The plan is a SFBD 2.5 inches, bags on parallel bars with a watts link, tilt bed with a topper and targa top and prob just some eskies or 16" billets if I can find some old schools.. sheet metal and fiberglass interior

started of when I got it in december like this

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh289/accordwagon4/Datsun013.jpg

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh289/accordwagon4/Datsun011.jpg

then thanks to a nice warm winter day in Michigan I got the interior and bed off

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh289/accordwagon4/Datsun018.jpg

got it down to a roller

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh289/accordwagon4/Datsun028.jpg

and then up on the table

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh289/accordwagon4/Datsun029.jpg

picked up a bunch of steel, some 2x3 for the frame and 1.25 square for the link and watts bars

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh289/accordwagon4/Datsun036.jpg

had to move the seats back cause its a little small for me, I drilled out the spot welds and moved the whole mount back, can see right out the side windows

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh289/accordwagon4/Datsun032.jpg

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh289/accordwagon4/Datsun033.jpg

........AND FINALLY THE GOOD STUFF

frame on the table, jigged up and body mounts marked. Front Z tacked into place

it was in great condition, not rust in the floor but there is some on the bed. I only broke 3 bolts total getting everything apart.. not bad for a truck in michigan thats 26 years old

kickass build i have been watchin this over streetsource too.

you going to keep the lip bed or put a smooth bed on it?

i recommend keeping the lip bed :D

only thing that sucks is that the bed floor is actually attached to the bed sides and more of a pita to cut than a regular bed where theres more of an inner structure

wagondragger720
02-24-2009, 01:32 PM

also been following on ssm,,,along with your wagon!! dont let this one take over,,,i want to see the wagon painted!!(like the rendering btw!!)

wagondragger720
03-07-2009, 02:35 AM
the truck wont take over completely but I will be finishing it before the wagon. I plan on driving this by June. then I will finish up the wagon. Not sure what paint yet but the rendering is one of two choices.

not many updates lately but I have been working on the interior. Heres where its at as of tonight
for the most part its just going to be stock with a few mods. I cut the dash apart and made it smooth with MDF, swapped the dvd/screen and dash vent location so the vent is below the screen. Made a box for 2 12 inch MMATS behind the seats. The console needs finished but I did start it.

that is just the x-over, I am running a 4 channel hidden under the box

got the one door done, bent some 3/16 rod and routed out a channel for it to sit in. Then sanded the first stage of filler off the dash

all that and the stock tank????

ya I am on such a budget with this thing that I have to go stock gas tank. This is the second full on build project I have right now and it will be the daily driver. I Need to finish my accord wagon too so I cant give this truck all the cash. I will do something to hide it or dress it up a bit though.

this is my wagon, its really my main project but I just needed something to drive like fast. the wagon is close but still needs alot of little things done and I felt I could knock the truck out faster

thats a watts link, its basically 2 panhard bars with a rotating center to take care of the arcing motion caused by a panhard. It keeps the axle centered, with a parrallel 4 link there is nothing to keep the axle from moving side to side and this solves that problem.

ohhh..my bad. I dont have a specific answer thats just the way it was designed. Its possible the thought was if its removable its easier to have PC, chrome or paint done to it but not sure. Its not my design.

that makes sense, the solid panhard bar would shift the axle over when lowered.

well the fab work is pretty much done. Just need to finish the exhaust and make two bed mounts real quick, then fill in the cab. I will be painting the frame and starting assembly this weekend. pinion is set to 0 it has no change during its cycle and the carrier bearing to be honest was more or less a guess. I tried to make it level with the transmission. I will have to see if I get any vibration and adjust from there, it has room for adjustments up and down though.

the guy I bought it from was def old and he lived on a farm. He was all hunched over and could barely walk. He said thats why he was selling it, couldnt get into it anymore. he came out to meet me on a quad and only got off it for a moment, took and few steps then sat back down. the only thing that will give it away is all the stickers on the back window, one of them of course is an infamousnissan.com sticker

they are staying for sure. I dont like that the people behind can see me so well in those mirrors but owell it all adds to the character of it.

I kept everything on the truck that it had when I bought it from the old farmer, the busted fender, bent bumper and even the walmart cup holder he had mounted down by the shifter. the only thing I did was build the frame and changed the interior a bit.

sooooo close!!! lets go for a ride!!!!

lets go....
its finally driveable, had some small issue that I just got figured out. I was stupid and didn't clean the intake manifold well enough for the new gasket so that was whistling like crazy.. There was a bad wire going from the battery to the fusable link so the alternator wasn't getting any power and there was a bad ground so the lights were intermittently working. All those issues have been taken care of and I cruised around for a good half hour tonight. I even got a little drag in for the kids at the tridge which is just a local hang out spot here in Midland
heres a little video, the quality sucks it was on a 2MP camera

i'm not plainning on painting mine anytime soon either. i'll basecoat the rear doors and bed and roll it that way for a while. i'm planning on having my pinstriper do a spoof body shop name on the doors and some stripes, this way it looks like an old shop truck.

dont let all that work sit, thats when stuff starts going bad

I will be getting some good shots and better video Friday when I make my first cruise to Sonic then Ill send them on to Pugz. Nisrod the garage will be cleaned and the frame table moved back in shortley for the accord, no need to leave the Nissan in the rain...it will be tight in there but I have worked in that 1.5 car garage stacked 3 vehicles wide with the accord, the truck body and frame table all in there so I can do it again.

so whats the good/bad of a tilt bed? i'm still learning about nissans and so far this is the only one that i've seen with a tilt bed, how hard is it to build? is it a display thing only or is there an advantage from it?

wagondragger720
08-13-2009, 08:45 PM
it was very easy to do, just a few extra bags, brackets and a few pivot points. I did it just because Ive always wanted a tilt bed just never built a truck before now, always did cars so this was my opportunity. Plus there is nothing better than a slammed mini dragging with the bed up.

Im surprised at how many people are dying for a tilt bed now.. everyone that sees it says they want one. cant say I blame ya, its one thing I had to have with a truck, to me it just finishes it off well especially when people arent expecting the truck to be anything but stock

It would be funny to put the gas tank under the bed and so every time you go to fill up you lay out an lift the bed up!! that will get peoples heads turnin!

so for the bed to lay you would have to cut the rockers about an inch or two right? it has a gap from the bottom of the bed then the cab is on the ground

thanks for the comments everybody.

ya but Im not looking to door it.. what Im going to do about the bed is just cut it under the molding and drop it down then fill in the gap.

I have a few more things I want to do to this besides that so its not done yet. I want to suicide the drivers door, finish the bed with wood flat on top and tilt forward hood.

and get my valve back for the tilt bed so I can actually use it... brand new valve but the seal wont stay seated so I had to send it in to get replaced.

what did u do tho thfront of the bed? looks like u took the paint off for something.

wagondragger720
08-25-2009, 03:06 PM
that spot on the drivers side of the bed was rusted through with a pretty big hole. I cut out that patch and welded in new cause thats a point where the internal bracing comes together and is welded to the bed. cant weld to rust so it had to go. just gives it that much more character.

got a question on this one....did you move that brake booster over as well, or is it just smaller? I have a smaller one for mine, but I'm still hitting it...so, I'm thinking I have to move it over some. :(
