ok, i always searched on the other board, but never found the answer to this question.
i have 205/40 17 tires on my 720. will they lay frame WITHOUT a drop spindle? i would like to keep as much lift as possible in the front as eventually it will have a BD. plus i like lots of lift. so i figured if i don't have to buy spindles, it would put another 200 somewhere else into the truck..
anyone got any 720 front shots with 2600 bags??
thanks in advance

Drop spindles won't reduce your lift. If your bag is still completely bottomed out when the truck is laid out you won't sacrifice anything. Drop spindles are nice because they reduce camber, and keep your geometry pretty good at low ride heights. They also leave more room to put the bags in. One thing about the 720s that is a drawback is the short upper control arm. But you can still achieve a good 8-9 inches of lift, which should be plenty. That was enough to clear 18s on the bodydropped 720 I did.

My friend has a BD 84 on 17 with 205/45 and lays without spindles but he replaced upper ball joints all the time... It kinda maxed them out right befor layin out

do you think that pie cutting the upper arms would help this out? keep them from binding up @ full drop? i guess that might also make the already rediculous camber somewhat worse by pulling them in some more..
i'll hafta pull the torsions and start measuing i guess

i'm bumping this back up
DOES ANYONE lay on stock spindles?? and what's your tire size??
i asked wagondragger, but he z'd his frame, and i'm not going to do that
i want to start replacing all my brake stuff with new, but if i HAVE to buy drop spindles, i might as well replace them with hardbody stuff

Tranny crossmember hangs below frame.cut what hangs and plate it or z it.

tire size woudl be real important here..
i'm guessing the balljoints found their limits???

LILFLIP..
is yours laying full frame front to back??
did you have to modify your arms?

but didn't you Z your frame @ the cowl area?? and build a new frame all the way back?
i think this would make it irrelevant if it will lay out on the stock frame rails??

Is your torsion rod hitting the steering?

I had to tri my lowers because the torsion was hiting the gear box

ya sorry.. to be more specific its a SFBD 2.5 inches with a Z'd front.
Full frame from firewall back. So maybe a 23 inch tire would be ok.

yes, I am laying frame from front to back. The front crossmember between the front tires no longer sits on the ground, like it did with the 16's but the frame under the cab is on the ground all the way to the rear before it starts arching back up under the bed area.

The only thing I can think of that might stop you from laying frame is bag placement and supports running to the front of the truck (radius arms). I removed them and put a new one on my lower arm. The uppers were flipped, but that shouldn't change anything except stopping my ball joints from maxing out. I'm going to change that out with tubulars soon...

The only other thing that used to stop me from laying out with the 18s is the firewall tubs and the inner fender supports. I have since cut those out and am re-tubbing my firewall...if you check out my build thread you can see what I've done.

you said your engine crossmember is 1" off the ground...do you mean your tranny crossmember? mine hung down lower than the frame and well has been drug flat with the frame...that's next to be replaced. the torsion bar crossmember has been drug flat as well and will be replaced as extra support between frame rails...

Im not on stock spindles any more but I could lay on stocks with tube uppers and tri lowers just got the ds so I could run hard body brakes
