well its been a long time since the last update but here we go.

august long weekend i want to my parents house (i dont have a garage, or anywhere i can work on my truck)
i had a huge list of mods (shave handles, taillights, rollpan tailgate skin, led tailgate strip for taillights, suicide doors, and pathy 1/4 panels)
i got 2 of em done.
suicide doors, and the pathy 1/4s
here are some pics.

we first cut the stock wheel arch out to allow the pathy 1/4 to sit on top of the bedside.
next we layed the pathy 1/4 over the bedside, using the bodyline to "interlock" the panel in posision.
than traced around it.
we cut on the line we just traced. than its was just simpaly butt welding it together.
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm57/in-graved/IMG_0204.jpg

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm57/in-graved/IMG_0224-1.jpg

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm57/in-graved/IMG_0225-1.jpg

next up was the suicide doors. a lot of screwing around to get there suckers to work. lots of trial and error so i don't have much of a wright up on how to do it, but ill do my best to answer questions.

first off i made sure the truck was on jack stands, and lever, both front to back, and side to side. this way we could use a level to determine the positioning of the hinges.
next i welded the 2 hunges together, making sure everything was square, and plum.
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm57/in-graved/IMG_0228.jpg

next i found the flatest part of the door and held the hinges about there they would go, and traced the hinge pockets on to the b pillar.
than cut on the lines.
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm57/in-graved/IMG_0226.jpg

we needed some room to work, and brace so i cut a little out where the seat belt goes.
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm57/in-graved/IMG_0227.jpg

than i oped in the hinges, made sure they were level all ways, so the doors didn't open down towards the ground, or up to the sky. and that one hinge was ferther in than the other.
once that was established i tacked a good 6-10 tacks to the b pillar (enough to support the door)
than i closed the door lightly on to the hinges so i could mark where the pockets needed to go into the door.
traced em and cut em out.
tacked the pockets in, braced the door with more metal (i used 1/4"x1" flatbar turned on edge)
now we knocked out the pins on the door, keeping the hinges there for alignment.
once it was all perfect...or as close as we could get. w i welded it altogether.
braced the hinge pockets in the cab, and played around with the adjustments till everything was right.

here is me just before i left
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm57/in-graved/IMG_0252.jpg

and here is the finished product after i put the interior back together.

im really hoping its ok. iv tried to figure put the laws but no one will tell me. they just say "leave it stock" yeah, like thats an option

Getting an vehicle inspection is like being pulled over by a cop - you're at the mercy of their interpretation of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and Transport Canada Traffic Safety Regulations.

Inspection Facilities are heavily pressured to ensure any vehicle they pass actually complies with all regulations - under threat of losing their inspection facility license.

Generally, if your vehicle came with it, it needs to be there and it needs to work. You've lost all your rear reflectors, back up lights, and corner markers. This is not smiled upon. Tip: Do not give the police a reason to pull you over. If your LED tails are not DOT approved, they are not legal.

I don't know the legality of suicide doors, but they do have the name "suicide" for a reason. I think they are super cool.

One of the other hassles is "structural" modifications to the vehicle, like step notches, mini notches, and any welding on the frame, suspension or steering components. These are illegal. HOWEVER, I do believe that they could be "OK'd" following a Structural Integrity inspection. These cost about $100. The trick is finding a shop that's willing to put their name on it. That's getting harder and harder.

Another hassle is if you are not an engineer, and if you are not a ticketed welder, fewer and fewer shops want to put their name on your work.

Having said that - if you give them a reason to pull you over, they can certainly go to town on making your life miserable. There is an Island Cop who goes by the name of Skidmark on RevScene - he often answers questions about legality and whatnot. Interesting threads on there if you can wade through the fart-pipe-Honda-riceboy scene.

Anything hanging below the rim (like frame, for instance) is an automatic towtruck to inspection facility, and you cannot drive it again until it passes. Don't give them a reason to pull you over.

A bit of background on me:

In 2006 I was able to get a completely custom-made home-built vehicle inspected, registered and licensed in BC. I built my own frame, all suspension components, and body work from scratch. Not something I want to go through again. Don't give them a reason to pull you over.

Nice truck, by the way. :)

thanks for all the info.
i have reflective stickers that commercial vehicles use than im going to stick in the same vicinity as my tail lights.
i am a ticketed C level welder, so hopefully this will increase my chances of having a shop sign off on my soon-to-be frame mods

finally have an update on this.
its been in the body shop for ever, and is still there, but its painted!
shes flat red, base clear. there is a flattening agent in the clear.
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm57/in-graved/014.jpg

and now for the bad news: there is all sorts of dirt, hair, and shit in the paint. its a flat color so polishing it out is out of the question.

the guy knows im pissed off about.
hasn't given any suggestions how to fix his wrong. all he says is "its impossible to paint a car with out getting some dirt in it"

a little dirt would be tolerable, but this is way more than a little, and there are some chunks that you can actually see a shadow from, and feel rough to the touch.

what would you guys do?

for those of you that own shops that paint for a living, how would you right this?

if this happened to you, what would you do to fix this?

If you payed him to do it, I would take it back to him and tell him to redo it. Or tell him to give your money back and take it to someone who can do it. Truck looks awesome other than that. Keep up the good work.

well its been a coon's age, but my hardbody is still alive and kicking.
i think she has a name now HRD LOW. what do you think?

as some of you may know i had some super shitty work done to my truck in the past while (if you want something done right, do it yourself) and i am now the proud owner of a truck with dirt in the paint, fucked up body work, and a mismatch paint...not to mention a fucked up suicide door, because my painter decided to paint over the latch, causing it to fly open.

I bought some clear bumper lights, installed them, and drove for about week. One day I was looking at my truck and decided the front looked a little weird, too much chrome maybe.
So I color matched my bumper inserts.
I normally hate things like this that are matched to the body, but this is better than the gray plastic. It'll hold me off till I find some aluminum inserts.
