Does any one have a link for the stock or moog upper and lower balljoints? Pretty sure they are the same from 98 to 04....

I don't have a link, but I can order them, or just get you a MOOG PN most likely.

The PNs would be great. Thanks a lot.

I didn't think the lower joint were removable from the arm. When I looked around for lowers I only saw the whole arm for sale.

They are pressed in and the dealer only sells them as an assembly. The aftermarket just recently started selling the balljoints by themselves.

Uppers are MOOG K90663.

MOOG doesn't offer a lower balljoint alone, just the entire control arm.

Oh, I thought someone finally released a lower balljoint by itself. Do you know of any others that will fit the spindle? Maybe the chrystler screw-in or the yotas?

Twisted Minis
09-28-2008, 09:38 PM
I don't know if the screw ins will fit, I don't know what the taper is on the Frontier. If its 7 degrees they will fit. But if the taper is deeper on the Frontier it won't work. If its more shallow it can be reamed out to fit correctly.

Ok, Ill measure them. Thanks.

I've heard rumor that Napa sells a lower balljoint for frontiers. But I have never verified for myself.

They only have the 4x4 listed

It looks like the lowers are pressed in so that if I built a custom arm that uses them I could just buy a stock one and press the joints out and put them into my arms. Im trying to make sure that I can service the arms in the future....

i know napa sells the top for around $50 A.P

Have you looked at the price the lower arm/ball joint combo sells for? The cheapest I've found them is ~$150 a side. I would try to find another lower ball joint that would work that is also commonly sold seperate.

The only other option is to get the spindles reamed out and use some totally different joints. Between the reamers, new joints, and machineshop fees, Im sure it will cost more. I still may do that if I can find out which balljoints to use with the reamers and if they make cups for them like the screw-in moogs.

Reamer is $50. You can ream a spindle with an air drill or cordless (low torque drill).

Low F350

Where can you get them for $50? Speedway has them for $80 each. I guess I would be using the k772 and k727 moogs. I still cant believe how cheap these balljoints are!!

Twisted Minis
09-29-2008, 02:42 AM
The K727 is not the lower balljoint you want. Its too small, and too tall. What you want for a lower is K778. Its on the wider end of the taper. Thats what I use most commonly, but they are much more than the K772 and K727 balljoints. Roughly $40 each. The Speedway balljoints are very cheap, they are priced that way for a reason, but they aren't all that bad. I prefer Falcon balljoints over MOOG even, they are nicer, and actually cheaper for some reason. They share the same PN as MOOG, but there is an F in front, example the lower is FK778.

Look at Summit and eBay for the reamers. I bought my 7 degree (1.5" per foot) for $50 a year or two ago.

Low F350

So the 772 will work for the uppers and the 778 for the lowers. Now, are the screw-in cups interchangable between the 778 and the 727? I cant find anyone that lists cups for the 778. Also, will the 7 degree reamer work on both the lowers and uppers? Sorry for all the questions but this will be my first time reaming a spindle and I dont want to buy the wrong parts and screw it up.

Twisted Minis

727 and 778 share the same thread diameter and pitch.

Toyotas use the same 7 degree taper on the upper and lower, and tie rods, same as most Ford cars do. The lowers are just tapered deeper than the upper and tie rod.

One last question, I promise, where do you get the falcons? Does not seem like there are any vendors online that carry them.....

Twisted Minis
09-29-2008, 05:36 PM
I get them from the local supply house I order other auto parts from. Its best to go inside and pick them out at a store that has them, not online. You want the ones with the Zinc plated grease caps. The ones that are Nickel plated don't come with the same boot, and don't thread in as nicely. Don't know what the deal is, because they are the same PN. But the Zinc plated ones are great, nicer than the MOOGs I have gotten. The MOOGs also have a thicker ring at the bottom, and the ball sits lower and it will change your geometry.

Cool, thanks Ill ask around some of my local shops.

So it turns out that Falcon Steering Systems just opened their first warehouse on the west coast. Therefore they are not available here in GA just yet. Is there any way you could get me a set of uppers and lowers and ship them to me? I would paypal you the money to buy and ship them plus something for your trouble. Just let me know how much you would need. Even if they end up costing me more than the Moogs it sound like they would be worth it. Thanks.

Yeah I can do that. I have to order a few more lowers anyway since I ran out today. I know the lowers are around $42 each, and I think the uppers are cheaper but I can't remember. Last time I bought like 10 so it was a big bill either way. I will let you know what the total is, and I can stick them in a flat rate box for $10.

I can check Wednesday. The guy I deal with only works Wednesday through Sunday. And hes the only one smart enough to figure out the balljoint shit without asking me what its for.

Awesome. Oh, and if you could throw in a couple of twistedminis stickers Ill add whatever you charge for them also.

Okay you are looking at $42 each for the lowers, and $25 each for the uppers. If you want them, I have to have the correct lowers ordered and can have them at my shop middle of next week. I should have new stickers by then too.

Low F350
10-04-2008, 01:45 PM
Yeah, I want them. Can you give me a total for everything with shipping? Ill paypal you today.

Oh my zip code is 30043.

Twisted Minis

How about $155 shipped? I have to pay tax on them, and PayPal takes some of my money.

Low F350
10-05-2008, 12:04 AM
Sounds good. Whats your paypal address? Oh, one more thing.... Im about to order the screw-in cups for these and just want to make sure Im getting the right ones. Speedway has two different ones. One says its for uppers and the other lowers. Since the K778 are originally designed as uppers, will I need upper cups for them or the lower ones? Hope that makes sense....

Twisted Minis
10-05-2008, 02:25 AM
I was not aware that the K778 was an upper balljoint, lol. But they fit in the large lower balljoint ring that Speedway sells.

My PayPal email is Seth@Twistedminis.com. I can place the order tomorrow and probably have them by Tuesday or Wednesday. I get new stickers on Monday.

Low F350
10-05-2008, 02:56 AM
Payment sent. And yeah they were actually designed for 1960 - 1993 Chrysler cars and trucks.

Low F350
10-05-2008, 11:07 PM
Let me know when the payment goes through and if you got my address. Sometimes the address will not show up when I send paypal.

Twisted Minis
10-05-2008, 11:27 PM
Yeah it went through. I already called in the order. They had the uppers in stock. The lowers had to be ordered to get the ones I like. He said it will be Wednesday before they get them. And then they just bring them to my shop. So whenever I get them I will box them up and send them out.

Low F350

Is this the right size reamer? http://www.xkut-reamers.com/servlet/the-7/1-dsh-1-fdsh-2%22-TAPER-PER-FOOT/Detail
There are a few 1 1/2" per foot reamers on the site but they have different diameters.

Twisted Minis
10-18-2008, 06:52 PM
Yeah that will work great, that size will work for both the upper and lowers I believe.

I am having issues getting the lower balljoints. I have the uppers alright, but apparently I cleaned out their stock of the lowers I like, and they don't want to reorder until the other ones are gone, so I am trying to find a different wholesaler that carries Falcon. If I can't get them would MOOG be okay?

Low F350
10-18-2008, 09:58 PM
Im not in a rush or anything but maybe give it another week or so then you can get the moogs. Thanks for the update.

Twisted Minis
10-19-2008, 11:47 PM
Okay. I was worried you might get frustrated. I will try to find another source. I also need these balljoints myself. Lol.

Twisted Minis
11-06-2008, 02:50 AM
Hey man I think I am just going to have to get you some MOOG joints for the lowers. I can't seem to find another supplier for the Falcons, and that place still has all 28 they had last month, and won't reorder until they sell them all.

Low F350
11-06-2008, 03:13 AM
Thats fine with me. Thanks for the update.
