If there are any of you that are not familiar with the house of hack Iwill be updating this thread soon with work that has been done to my truck over time. For now there is a pic in my user gallery until I get to update this thread ;)

JUST WANTED TO EDIT THIS FOR ANYONE THAT MAY BE STUMBLING ON IT FOR THE FIRST TIME: To clarify The House of Hack changed it's name to McClarys Metal Works any links to the hoh site site are dead. Just wanted to clarify the identiy true. I'm editing this 5-12-12 I started this build in 2002. MMW started work on this truck in 2005. It is still an in progress build awaiting completion from MMW. It has been waiting for "room" to return since MAY 2007 to complete work that has already been paid.

Here is the link to "Project Flashback" on HoH website http://www.thehouseofhack.com/James.html
It's been in and out numerous times
When mat first got his hands on the truck it had already been bagged on leafs...man, I regret not having it done right the first time, but you live and learn right. I took it to mat to link the rear and body drop. At that time he also put on a new roll pan...this is when I went to the lights in the pan...note mat didn't do my light fillers

THIS IS THE TRUCK BEFORE GOING TO HoH

Just posted those so you could have a comparison and know what mat has done...
so the rest are a mix of in process pics and between shop trip pics

I rocked the truck in white primer bd'd for a while then went back and mat shaved that hideous third brake light. Then the diamond tilt was also done before putting the truck in solid grey primer...not many pics of that took it to ShowFest06 then put the graphics on it.

because of the previously cut walk though we had to fix the back wall and made a flap...the wall will be going back next go around ;)

Mat designed the whole thing...I just told him I wanted a diamond tilt...and this was one time that I was glad it wasn't done the old school way... mat refused to use some home depot hinge..and it turned out great!

The next thing he got a hold of was the front end.
beefy ass nice bag mountsalso installed cando control arms
keep in mind he also had to cut off the old job that was there and re-enforce

also, at that time the stock hinge was done on the passenger door. We, cleaned up a lot more in the engine bay and installed electric fan.

Hinze the name....thanks man. It always feels good when guys my age or older tell me that looking at my truck brings back many great memories. I know it does for me. I had a truck in the day, it was nice but nothing like some of the older guys that could do or could afford all the crazy tricked out arsenal of mods. After leaving home and getting out on my own it took a long time before I was in a position to where I could really build my truck. So when I was able to I wanted to build the truck of my dreams..that I had always wanted, regardless of the latest trend or fashion. Yeah it does have some things old and some new....anyway thanks. I do have more pictures believe it or not  to add...of the polished parts under the hood and more build pics.

I'll look tomorrow and see if I can get some numbers... We just headed down to O'Rileys with the measurements and looked at the specs, looked for a dual fan with the highest output I could find to fit the clearance and measurements I had.

ah yes I remember the ole targa top trucks. I had the Ratical tops removable hard top with a fiberglass roof. Your truck look great thanks yeah this was also a radical tops targa

Love it!! What other plans you got for this thing?
First it's gotta sqeeze it's way back into the ice man's shop. Things I would like to see done: Rework the tail light fillers, put the back wall back in and solid glass so I can etch it :D , Remove the radical tops targa kit and plate off with metal for a cleaner look...top hasn't been on it in over 2 years anyway. We've discussed a few ideas relating to the interior....I really would like to see the bed with some sheet metal and maybe a hatch in the floor to show off the suspension after I get in there and clean that up more...mat did some nice work on those gussets and stuff. I would also like to shave the front corner markers...do final body work, even have a one off bumper in mind. Then Paint....I've gave up about all of my secrets so far so for paint ideas you'll just have to wait and see.

love your truck bro
thanks man

note, these pictures were taken 2 years after work was done ...and yeah I know the truck was bad dirty... I had gotten stuck in my yard, had fun cleaning up that mess. I think I have pics after cleaning but these were already in my photobucket have to find the others.

omg, your suicide doors, that is amazing, suicides on a budget...i had that idea not too long ago and never sat down to plan it out, you've given me that bit of motivation, i'm actually putting this thread in my favourites list so i can refer back to it...that is of course as long as you have no problem with me using your idea?

was it hard to switch everthing around like that, like hinge placement and allignment?
how did you get the latches to work? do you still have windows, cuz wouldn't the window tracks get in the way?
does it have the same range of motion as a factory door?
sorry for all the questions, but i had tossed that around in my head at like 2am lying in bed and thinking random thoughts, fell asleep and never thought about it again till now, so i really want to get this done, i'm on a hurting budget lol

yeti_'87HB

and theoretically speaking, if all my pillars, doors, latches and strikers are in good solid shape, couldn't i just take everything from one side and flip it to the other side?

HybridImages
10-20-2008, 04:19 PM
did you use the stock hinges for your suicide doors?
Yes (my nissan) stock hinges were used. Other times that I've herd stock hinge on nissan it's been a stock mazda hinge that was used
omg, your suicide doors, that is amazing, suicides on a budget... I wouldn't say a budget at at.. If your doing the work yourself and are an experienced fabricator you may come off a few bucks less...but you'll put way more time in

i had that idea not too long ago and never sat down to plan it out, you've given me that bit of motivation, i'm actually putting this thread in my favourites list so i can refer back to it...that is of course as long as you have no problem with me using your idea?
No problem, The only thing original about my idea is that it's been taken back to the old school in a day and time when people have forgotten the way it use to be done in the first place before you could just go out and buy suicide hinge kit. Although, Ice does work outside the box so my truck is old school with a little twist and some modern touches.
was it hard to switch everthing around like that, like hinge placement and allignment? Before ice ever started out on the doors, I snagged up some donor doors. There was a lot of work that went into test fitting...measuring cutting, welding, everything ice does when he's doing fab work
how did you get the latches to work? do you still have windows, cuz wouldn't the window tracks get in the way? Latches are stock latches, handle and rod flipped around to the front instead of the back....Yes, it still has glass
does it have the same range of motion as a factory door?YES
sorry for all the questions, but i had tossed that around in my head at like 2am lying in bed and thinking random thoughts, fell asleep and never thought about it again till now, so i really want to get this done, i'm on a hurting budget lol Like I mentioned before I wouldn't look at a stock hinge as being a cheap alternative...it's not, in most cases it's just as expensive material wise, and is defiantly more labor intensive.
My answers in the above quote are in bold

and theoretically speaking, if all my pillars, doors, latches and strikers are in good solid shape, couldn't i just take everything from one side and flip it to the other side?
Theoretically if you was say working on anything other than a hardbody...yes...you'd just be criss crossing the passenger and driver moving the front of the door to the back and back to the front on each. ONly on thing though... Even the best fab guys would recommend donor doors to work from. Also stock nissan hardbody hinges mount different than other makes. So even though parts were flipped around additional fab work was done on my door to accommodate the use of the nissan hinge and the front Jam wasn't cut out and replaced...instead the stricker was just added so the front part of the door was modified to work with that shape.

Hope this helps to clear some of that up

yeti_'87HB
10-21-2008, 02:08 AM
well, i have ass loads of time, just not much money...and i have a local pick and pull that is dirt cheap as well, i could prolly pick up a set of donor doors for under $200, and i've looked around, it sounds rediculous, but i can't find good suicide hinges for anything less than $350, just for the set of hinges....only crappy part about canada is not a lot of places to get custom stuff, even less to get stuff more directed towards mini trucks...so for me, this IS a cheaper route

Thanks NISLED.

This project has been sitting on the back burner way to long now. It actually makes me sick to think about it. As soon as the economy will allow though, I really want to get 'er finished up. I miss the feel of taking in out for a cruise. It seemed the first 3 years of putting this thing together everything was going pretty fast. It constantly had a change of appearance as it evolved into the truck I wanted it to be. The overall appearance hasn't changed now for almost 2 years. That was mainly due to the constant relocation of my store over the past two years along with the gas prices this past summer and our faltering economy. I hope that I'm in a stable location with the store now and can get back on track with the truck soon. I can't wait to see it finished up to the point that I can lay some color(S) down on it with some clear.

For Christmas it got treated to a new battery and windshield. Well, I have an update to give. Also, a story of a lesson learned the hard way. I tell this story so that others may learn, and don't make my mistake. Well, years ago on a site in another galaxy far far away (nm) there was a thread, and in it there was a debate of how important it was when extending your fuel tank to actually pay for hose that is pressure rated for fuel injection. The problem is that there is about a $5/ foot price difference. Well many moons ago, 5 years to be exact, I was low on case and bought regular fuel line. It cost me way more in the long run. There are some of you that know the story, but for those that don't. Feb 2008 I decided I wanted to meet up with a bunch of my friend and actually make a hour and a half trip in the truck...very rare since I never had time. Well, I was almost to my destination when the truck starts acting all kinda strange on me. Then it straitens up, and I get where I was heading. The next day I'm heading home, when it just goes kaput on me. Myself and a friend look it over, change the fuel filter...still no luck. He grabs a truck and trailer and brings me home. I then took my truck over to HoH where ice let me work on it. I was very proud of myself not being much of a mechanic, I managed to change a lot of parts under the hood over to polished parts. Well, it started but ithad a fuel leak. ice and I remove the bed and we discovered, a fuel line had a leak...it was a pin hole and near the pump so I had slack and trimmed it. The next thing ya know the fuel pump went out because the gas tank was bad rusty. So I buy a new pump, and ice had another old talk (not rust free but a helluva lot better than the one that was in there. I took time to clean and treat that tank, then put it back together. Still the truck is running like ass...so bad I couldn't put it on the road. I was so fed up and it was in pieces still durring all of this that I didn't take it to a few shows as I had planned. I took it to STC but mainly just pulled it of and on the trailer. Then I parked it in the store for a while and scratched my head and pouted. I tell you I went back in took the manifold and injectors back off and cleaned everything I could think of. Then the calender shoot came around. I was airing the truck up to take it out of the trailer when....the fuel line snapped. Couldn't reach it that day I knew the bed would have to come off. I didn't want to do that until I had another tank (new or damn good) to change out while I was already under there. This is were Ed (manic mechanic) came in. He had a tank that he shipped me...this thing was mint on the inside. Then mat (infamousdoughboy) helped me make sure it happened...pulled me out of the store and made it possible to get the bed off. There no way I could even think about lifting it be myself. We get the bed off and discovered that not only had that hose had a major blow out...there were many places along the way were it was collapsed. So the erratic behavior from the engine was due to erratic fuel supply. Which probably also caused the fuel pump to burn up in the first place. So the verdict is....regular line may get you home and work for a while in a pinch but someday when it starts getting old and weak, it will let you down. We changed out the tank, then the hose...Got some NEW gas and started the truck.....WOW, It's alive the way it should be full power. The moral to the story is "now or later" Money wise I ended up paying a lot more...not to mention all that time that I missed not being able to enjoy my truck. Well, stay tuned guys it's running again. There will be new pics soon...As soon as I get the chance I'm going to drag my ass off :thumb: sorry for the book, and ed, matt thanks again guys.

Yeah it's been giving me problems since Feb '08...what I was saying though tier, is that back in the nms days there was a thread talking debating using regular line vs fuel injected line. Well, here is the answer from first hand knowledge..regular line will work fine for a while, down the road though it will fail on you. I still gotta wrap a few things up like putting my fuel neck on and zipping up some wires before I put it on the road but you can tell just the sound of the motor is like the power is back, it's not trying to shudder down and flutter when you give it gas. Also come to think of it, ice may even remember after the bd when I was still driving the truck on a regular basis, that I kept mentioning that it seemed like it was loosing power and running like a dawg. It makes me feel better and I'm more motivated now though knowing the mechanical end of things are sound.

Well, years ago on a site in another galaxy far far away (nm) there was a thread, and in it there was a debate of how important it was when extending your fuel tank to actually pay for hose that is pressure rated for fuel injection.
Money wise I ended up paying a lot more...not to mention all that time that I missed not being able to enjoy my truck.

Shit.

I just strolled into the parts store and asked for fuel line, I didn't know I needed a certain rating?

it will work but who knows for how long I would suggest the first chance you get to at least change out the hose on the pressure side to hose that is rated for fuel injection. ;)
