Alright everyone so as yall know if you have been following my build log. So i have noticed that my truck doesnt want to start sometimes. It will start everytime if i just turn the key on but dont crank it. Once the fuel pump cuts off it will start right up. I took some of my emissions shit off when i had the motor put in. Im trying to figure out why my truck starts like shit when i dont just turn the key to the on position before i actually start it.

sounds like your fuel is draining back in you tank, there should be a check valve somewhere in the system

A check valve where dude under the hood somewhere???? Because this is the only place where work was done. It has to be on the intake somewhere but theres like 500 lines and wires i need to have an ideal where to look

did you pinch a injector oring that would cause the same issue, sounds more likely now that im thinking about it

Dude that i know they didnt take the injectors out because they wouldve just taken the whole intake off and dropped it on my new motor. I did some reading and maybe it is a check valve. Also i dont get more than 19 to 20 miles to the gallon? I thought i wouldve gotten a little better than that with all the shit i did to my motor

that mileage is pretty standard for these trucks

do you have a fuel pressure gauge?

jimmy726

No i dont have a fuel pressure gauge thor. But it runs great once i let the fuel pump do its job for a second. Then i crank it and it starts right up. But if i just get in and start cranking it will act all funny and not start. So i just turn the key to the on position and let it stay there until i here the fuel pump cut off and then i crank it and it will fire right off

sounds to me like a lazy pump but without a fuel gauge it's hard to diagnose.

jimmy726
12-27-2008, 04:49 AM
Its like there is no gas in the intake until i just let the fuel pump get it up there

Thor

could be a plugged fuel filter or some other restriction taking the pressure too long to build up...but rather than guessing go to a parts store and get a fuel gauge you can hook on after your filter

jimmy726

Yeah that shit is tru man id probably better off just getting a pressure gauge. I changed my filter after the motor was dropped in so how no man ill just have to try and figure this one out

The other thing im pissed about is my fucking fly wheel shouldve been ground down before it was put back on. So now the bitch has alittle shimmy in 1st and reverse. Im just going to have to live with that because im not pulling them apart just for a little shimmy when i first start out. It more that im just disappointed because i spent so much on everything with my motor you exspect it to be perfect

Thor

umm just double check the filter is pointing the right way...a filter running the wrong direction can cause problems similar to what you are describing...just check just to be sure and if it's right get a fuel gauge and we'll go from there

Thor

not sure what you mean by skip but all the HB's have a bit of a shudder in 1st gear and reverse...every single one of mine did it and I know others do too.

jimmy726
12-27-2008, 05:03 AM
Yeah i editted it to say i little shimmy but i didnt know everyone had that problem. I was told it was from the flywheel not being tru. Or there was grease from the mechanics hands on the clutch but that shouldve been gone by now

And dude i swear if that fucker put my dam fuel filter on backwards im going to kick him in the nuts tomorrow

pretty sure the check valve is in the fuel pump assembly.

If it's not keeping pressure then either u have an injector leak, fuel line leak, or fuel pressure regulator leak.

Grease on the clutch will cause a shimmy. U will have to burn it off with some slippage.

idk man im waiting on the wifey to get up and then im going to check some shit. As far as the clutch goes it isnt grease because ive been driving it for 2 weeks now and hasnt got better. So im pretty set on its just my flywheel not being tru

Alright so i checked all the lines and everything looks good. And for thor im thinking the fuel filter is on correctly. On the top it says line out which goes to the intake. So i have no fucking clue i mite have to find a pressure gauge but dam i dont want to buy one for a one time use. Maybe autozone has a loaner one

there could be a piece of trash stuck in a injector causing it to bleed down, you can pull the fuel rail and injectors and pressurize them slightly, *becareful to not blow the injectors of the rail, it makes a mess,* just watch and see if gas is leaking from the injector tips

Idk im starting to just think i should leave it alone and how to hell it doesnt get any worse

Alot of the trucks I have driven have the shimmy as well. My frontier was the WORST one of all I had owned though. Sounds to me like a FPR but ya never know until you check the pressure. Also, dont get those cheapy 15psi(hb is 30+psi) fuel gauges that are so common at the parts stores. IT wont tell you anything other than you have pressure and they will leak like a son of a bitch after a while. peace.

Thor

if you want to leave it alone that's your call...do you have a friend who's a tech they should have a fuel pressure gauge?

jimmy726

nismopu what is a fpr

Thor
12-29-2008, 11:27 PM
fuel pressure regulator

what year is your truck again?

jimmy726

its a 1993 ka24e thor

Its on the fuel rail itself held on by two little screws and has one vacuum line going to it. peace.

i got the same issue in my truck but couldnt tell ya if it still does it its been just sitting for like 5 months. i never did figure the damn thing out, i think it might be a check valve cause i have a fuel pressure tester and it would drop pressure once the pump shut off, it would go down but kinda slow took like a minute to completly loose pressure.

jimmy726
12-30-2008, 02:48 PM
yeah im going to have to find out what my shits doing. I dont have a pressure gauge but ill get it. if not ill just deal with it. its not completely fucking up so idk
